I found a wee heap of fruit bush canes that I bought last year, is there any point in trying to plant them or will they be dead beyond recovery?

well the wag tail is about again....now named ''Hoppy''. I tell you, creatures only have to walk past twice here to get a name and thrice to get me wondering whether I should worm them. Nice to think Hoppy might have twigged an easy way to eat about here.

We're pretending the dificult bramble patch doesn't exist today...something for next weekend I think...weather permitting.

Rummer - Jab the canes in a pot, you'll maybe be surprised & will cost nowt.

Last Winter I had blackcurrant cuttings in a bucket of water that turned to a block of ice for months. They are all in the ground & growing well now.

rhiwfield - unusual name that - what an absolutely stunning, sunning photograph. I can feel the heat off it.
LIR - we have torrential rain & low cloud but I'm going out to see if my beetroot will be fit for pickling. Sorry you have snow again.

Thanks all for sympathies & celebrations in 12 days time.
CTC - That programme is our sort of telly. It looks good. This caravan could do with a hose out, a good swill out with hot, bleachy water............but it'll have to wait coz the extra muck layer is like insulation.

Just as well I'm not walking past you LIR - you'd have to name & worm me too:rotfl:

choille, rhiw is welsh for hill. Thanks for comments on photo but I cant take any credit at all, it's one I found of a sunrise on the web that looked nice.

CTC, if you get your new venture I'll gladly return all those cyberhugs and cyberkisses :D but just atm I'm in quarantine to stop all these pig germs getting to other people :( Sort of soft cell, IYKWIM, not Marilyn Manson :D. Had to youtube here comes the sun to recall CR's cover version, couldnt get the beatles out of my mind. Make me smile is the one I always remember.

Got problems with the hens, the blue has been separated out the last two days. She's been getting more aggressive, with both the blacktail and the maran suffering, the maran going off lay as a result. Aggression was not only feather pecking of rump and neck but also mounting the other birds. So its off to "Home to Roost" and Aldrovandi is unconcerned "Hens mounting roosters. Roosters mounting roosters. Hens mounting hens and crowing about it, such things happen" Perhaps blue, having taken over the role of rooster "entices other hens...and wearies them by leaping on top of them".

Whatever the reason, and Sheasley mentions the possibility of a diseased ovary releasing androgen (but more likely me keeping them confined) the blue's aggression had to stop so she's in the converted Little Tykes house. Where she pecks DW topping up her feed and water and today ate her own egg (a first).

Hmmm, need to think what to do next

Anyone want a lovely hen going though an identity crisis :D

Oh great :( Now the decrepit septic tank that we were allowed to stay hooked up t for a year is backing up. :( No bath, no washng, no dishes...and er....no good that the loo isn't frozen. Its only been used by us, which means of course, mainly me, for six months, and was emptied befor that. It used to have the waste from the farm and the neighbours farms going into it, so I had hoped it would last just us till our sewage treatent thing went in. Another unwante and should have been in necessary bill and mini crisis.
