Untested for me at the moment. I haven't actually been out collecting "scrap" I just save what comes into my possession. I won't be collecting many alu cans as I don't drink from them (so I don't buy them). A mate used to give me his each day at work (2 per day) and I crush them so they take up les space. I have some that are uncrushes so I can put Actimel bottle tops in them and bits of foil from chocolates (this time of year anyway). The cans, crushed or not, can fetch up to £800 per ton atm but loose foil is very little (I guess because it can be so contaminated with food - grease) so the plan is to increase the weight of the cans with the foil to get the more decent price for it!
I keep my food cans which are washed thoroughly but I only have about 50 or 60 of them.
Any electrical goods I am getting rid of I strip of the wiring, then I strip the plastic off it to make it "bright" copper (top dollar! Up to £4700 per ton). I have quite a stash of wiring to strip.
I still have my old oven (de-wired of course) so I'll probably scrap that in with the food cans. I might only get a few quid for it but luckily I work in an area where there are many scrapyards so it's not going to cost me anything to take the stuff other than the difference in the weight my car has to carry to work.
If anyone knows of a good metal site where I can find out what the different metals are I'd be grateful to know. I've looked before but didn't find anything useful.

CTC.... Really hope you get where you want to be
Stitching-Witch, not sure I'd want to know the future, though I do like to provide for it. But if carrying on as you are leaves you unhappy or dissatisfied then you know you need to change something, even if its only your expectations. I've found being positive and taking action to achieve a goal is life enhancing
And in similar vein:
"If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got."
These aren't my words, but the sig of someone far more successful and go-getting than I'll ever be. I froze when I first saw them, and I still think they are wonderfully inspiring in their directness.

CTC - Thanks for the ebay tips. I'm just going to get rid of stuff I don't wear & maybe some books - cheap stuff that I'm not bothered about.
Nice all the inspitational stuff that folks are posting on here. I go into a funk at this time of year - don't like it & have found this Winter tough. It snowed last night & is still doing little flurries just now but it's only sticking to the tops.
Yesterday we had a visit from the local news - they seem to know what's going on in the area, I would actually rather not know often - that depresses me as it's battle after battle. If the house was finished I'd move tomorrow the way I'm feeling.

Dave - that's great the locals are going to take over the running of the PO. These places are really important in rural areas.0

Grrr....asked a question about weed supressant fabric because DH was out strimming the gap between silage clamp and muck heap (30 mtres by about 3 metres) because that where we want the soft fruit (South west facing, easy to net, warmth from the wall) and he's got down and its mainly rubble. Too exhausting to think about how to tackle that!0

Exactly what Rummer said!
I'm sure there is a deep admiration for you Choille, by me anyway, and probably others as we can only imagine the difficulties you have to overcome and to be honest I don't think I could stomach living in a caravan through winter down here where it's been relatively mild (maximum minus temp was -14 here) never mind up there where you live!
As you've probably noticed, I am always moaning about my lot! lol Please just ignore it - it makes me feel better just typing it, kind of like getting things off your chest. It's good to talk (type).
Chin up hun, the days are getting longer and spring will be upon us before we know it.

Today while we were out side a little wagtail was very interested in what we were doing (dh strimming, I forking the muck heap) and kept bizzing about and watching. I noticed it had a damaged leg. It looked totally wrecked....the foot limp and behind it, being held up, but incredibly distorted. Yet the wagtail seemed alert, healthy, relaxed and VERY nosey. I didn't know what they like eating, so got some chook pellets, a handful of a cuple of horse feeds and some corn. It liked the flacked grains fro the horse food best. Such a brave and personable bird, and I can't stop thinking about how game it was with that useless leg.0
