Don't worry, I'll PM you when things are more certain! ;)

ATM I'm giving us a sensible timetable, so we'd sell at events in 2010 and maybe open to the public in 2011.

But it will never be one of those 7 day a week places. Funnily enough, we had the chance of one of those and turned it down two years ago, only for me to 'meet' the vendor's wife on MSE last year! It was still for sale then, but I believe it's gone now.

I'd just like to report, as promised, that our offer on a smallholding in Devon was accepted late this afternoon. It's nothing flash, and we'll need time to sort it out, as it's been lying untended for a few years, but there's some potential in it.

I will post more details eventually, but because it is ag-tied, I need to talk face to face with the planners, though they've told me over the 'phone that we are qualified to buy. I will only believe it when I have that in writing! When I'm sure, I'll say more.

Oooooo Dave, I'm intrigued to know whereabouts you're buying, we're selling up in order to buy somewhere with land, and have been looking at smallholdings.

Good luck to you, and can't wait to be able to get on the bandwagon once our house has sold.

I won't give the exact location until we have some certainty, but we are buying in a quiet area of mid-Devon. This is a surprise for us, as we were expecting to buy in West Wales, which has many more places within our price range. For landscape and variety, I'd still go for West Wales myself, but closeness of family & stuff like that can be a strong influence!

There's a limited number of places with affordable landed property: Wales, some parts of Devon/Cornwall, the Shropshire/Powys borderlands and East Anglia being the main ones. (I'm not sure about 'Oop North') Apologies if you're aware of all that.

Smallholdings will always be relatively expensive and, once they get to about 1.5 acres, (big enough at a pinch for a child's pony) those in less rural areas can be marketed at quite silly prices. I would say that managing without larger animals is the way forward for many people, as a well-planned small plot can still be highly productive.

Best of luck with your search. Never a better time to buy than next autumn imho.

Hi not much to report really... i have opened an HSBC account to get the £50 cashback.. via quidco... so i need to sign the paperwork and send that back... will do a small dd or something to come out of that every month, so once i get my £50 cashback into my paws i will use this bank account to jump ship to another bank, thats offering money to swop.( i think A&L are offering £100 at mo to swop...but my main bank account is Barclays. so will not mess around with that one...

Went to the farm auction on monday... didnt stay long, as there wasnt much there..and there was a 10% buyers premium, which there isnt at our normal farm auction....so we didnt buy anything..

there is anotehr Farm auction on saturday in ffairffach, which we have never been to, its one of the biggest in the area, so we are going to take a toddle down there, everyone raves about it, so will see.

Had my first bank statement from the Halifax, and yes the £5 has gone in...so that is an easy £5 every month... also need to put money into the bank of scotland account today, to get their £5.

I wonder how many people are actually doing this, just using the account purely for the free money.... its going to bite them in the financial backside... surely htey have cottoned on they are going to lose money:confused:

anyway hope everyone is well, and putting some pennies into their pots ( MRSM good amount in your pot:beer:)

note to self....... need to get a new pot

Hey Dave, totally understand, keep it under your hat until you've signed on that dotted line!

We're looking primarily in North Devon, due to OH's work commitments and we'll be taking my mother with us, she has dementia and the care and support here is so good I'd been reluctant to move too far south.

Just hope we can shift our house quickly, I'm trying not to look at anything before we get an offer but it's so tempting to daydream!!

    well done!!!!!

i love hearing new of when peeps have added to their funds....no matter how big or small...

not much to report really, i didnt go to hte farm auction in ffairfach, buy hubby and youngest are there now as we speak....so flip knows waht they will come back with:rolleyes:

once hte sun moves a bit, and i got a shady bit in the back garden i will be going out to 'potter' around

I am in in 2 minds to apply for an Amex credit card as they give 5% back in cashback for the first 3 months up to a certain amount of money..we havent got any big purchases as such, but we could use it for our day to day expenses and then pay all off at the end of the month when the bill comes in..so will ponder over that moneymaking option...

MRSM .... i am going to try and make a savings pot out of one a big orange squash bottle...lol..
if i cout the bottle top properly i think i could manage to fit £'s and 50p's in there.... will have to make sure hubby super glues the top on....lol..

I have slowly started to sell my eggs, well i have sold 2 lots of 1/2 dozen duck eggs for £1.50 per 1/2 dozen, so will get some signs ready to put up in shops etc, and order some egg boxes..

hope everyone is well this glorious weekend, and dont forget to put your suntan lotion on.:D
