I woke up to no water today and the water board will not answer so I am now the only person shovelling snow and bringing it in to fill the bath :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

TBH, I'd stay grubby I think.Last year I was melting snow for troughs.....this year no snow on the ground now, so that's not an option.

My Dd said are we going to have ice baths  I had to explain to her it was so we could flush the toilet
There is no water in the local shop so I am hoping my OH can bring some in when he gets home.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

LOL, I see! :rotfl::rotfl: Good luck.
We're certainly less bad than we were, some ice dropped out of one of the feed room taps when it was tried. The ice rink thawed a little yesterday, but that allowed the ''spring''to flow a little more so now its got thicker again.0 -

as i carried her over to join the others inside for some breakfast she told me all about it, clucking and chattering away.
She looks none the worse for wear.

TODAY is not a good day !! i did battle with BT , who said they were going to cut me off for non-payment, i have a direct debit thingy?? they told me I had cancelled it then told me all the "fees" they would be charging me !! i stmped off to the bank ,only to find the high street shut off to traffic for some santa shaped people trying to sell you a hog roast ! i parked miles away [exageration!]. bank said no i hadnt cancelled, BT HAD ?? so back home i went into battle yet again with BT... i asked to speak to someone in england which took 20 mins to get through to. they checked and YES they had cancelled it and the "nice" lady said "oops, dont know how that happened".....
i said could i charge BT all the fees they said i was going to pay? "oh no, it was just an error" !!!! i left her with some thoughts that were dear to my heart... i know SHE wasnt at fault but as the ad says "her career choice".
then i had a "panto" meeting, huddled round a kitchen table with the VICAR at its head [ i spent the 1st half hour trying to remember if id said anything "out of order" in the presence of said vicar when i had last seen in him civvys and didnt know his occupation!!]
well i sat through fasinating discussions on where to get 12 cardboard boxes etc, left to drive to southampton airport 2 pick up a friend, got stuck in a tailback, couldnt park, got home to find the boiler not working and then son and girlfriend taking over the kitchen using every pan i possesed, leaving debri to the tune of " i will sort that lot later" and finally sitting by the fire only to realise i forgot to get more coal!!!
it can only get better....cant it!0 -
alfie, had a slightly similar case with AOl when I switched to Talktalk, their sister company. They billed me a contract cancellation fee incorrectly and their call centre was so-so. Wrote to main complaints dept and was reimbursed fee + a payment for my time and phone costs. Moral: go to the top to complain.
In contrast to alfie had a nice day yesterday. Did a bit of essential shopping with DW then had a walk round old Llantwit Major. May not sound much but seeing her walk almost normally is a blessing. Then dropped her off to see the Gds crimbo play while I cleaned the pheasants and precooked tea using the spare solar. Relaxed later with glass of red in front of woodburner reading a good book. Pleasant day (apart from the pheasant plucking). Lots of little things sorted.
Last week ordered top up oil and got price down to 51p after quoting boilerjuice price, though its not been delivered yet
See that BJ quote has gone up to 61p. Now thats a heavy, heavy price but for interest I looked at BJ's national maximum price for heating oil. 200p a litre :eek::eek:.0 -
I have just finished reading this thread right from the beginning and I am bowled over with the amount of help, info, sympathy, caring and incredible hard work here. I feel as if I know you all now!
My smallholding dream is slightly different, I want a small house and a huge garden/plot of land to grow plants to photograph. And probably a few rescue hens and knowing me a few other animals in need of a home. I have seven cats at the moment and it feels it when I wake up in the morning and they're all piled in on the bed.
I am a freelance photographer now specialising in plant photography. I used to work behind a desk but after being made redundant I swore I would never work for 'the man' again!
Like many others I do have the debt mountain to conquer, but after reading this thread I know it IS possible if you just keep going and never lose sight of your dream.Flowers are sunshine for the soul0 -
Welcome Poppy, I love your avatar, is it one of your pictures?
O love the idea of your cats. One of my all time dreams is to wake up under a duvet of cats. Its never going to happen, but is a nice idea! My two crawl underneath the duvet, and have their favourite sleeping places depending on time of year. In the summer we lie in a row, but when DH is home Pinky is ALWAYS in the middle, she loves being super hot and slightly squashed when dh and I cuddle.
I'm so cold I could die. I bought our sewage treament plant today (before VAT rise). Its for six people, so if we ever do B and B I'll have to make sure only the guests poop. Apparently all that happens if more people use it is it needs emptying more often. I'm still quite keen on having an earth closet outside really though, once we lose the downstairs outdoor loo.
Yesterdays eggs were all over the show, one three big bales up on a badly stacked sticky outy bale, one on a beam above my head in the dairy. Strawberry was standing next to it looking disgusted with whichever of her half sisters had laid it and it was still warm, so a late afternoon egg laid on the way to roost for the night I suppose.
The sun is out, so I'm off to do some work outside0 -
Welcome Poppy! Glad you've come to join in the fun! Hope everyone is having a good day today. Slightly warmer here so far and have not so much work to do so about to do a big batch cook before picking up DD from school. Need to get going on Xmassy stuff as well but keep putting it off!0
