ive decided to put the under quilt on TB barney today . he looks huge but iv been told at the marina that an extreme chill factor is in for the next 48hrs at least and it is b****y cold here!! they are all enjoying racing round the 10 acres now...
im now about to start sewing AGAIN for a pantomime costume... a fair ground carousel outfit !!!
    MUG MUG MUG

Our very old girl had a stable rug under her NZ last week, but its milder here now, and that terrible north wind dropped so I've taken it off, and special girl has her neck cover on only at night, they've adjusted. I'm really impressed with her weather beeter rug, much better than the more expensive one that's now reserve. To me though this time of year is better than the spring/autumn when I feel like I'm changing rugs all day to keep the oldy right. I amgetting a bit edgey about feet though...big girl is the least likely to get lami horse there is but she and one of the others are choosing to stand away from others in the barn so I'm feeling for pulses all the time instead now:o
  • I think it could have either been 2 cottages one up,one down or the downstairs was devided into half living room, and half barn with maybe 2 rooms upstairs..

also i think that the alcove to the left of the fire, could have had a wooden spiral type staircase... which was common in old welsh houses , they were either brick or wooden... in the forst pics of the living room/fireplace on the right hand wall you can see where the wooden joists used to be for the first second floor

here we go a couple of pics of the front, soory they are not that goodm but we couldnt get passed the brambles:rotfl:

It varies according to county and period, doesn't it? Sometimes the animals were down stairs, in long houses at one end and in many (probably mine) animals at the back people at the front.

I need a few geese for the dogs, good suggestion. What am I looking for with geese? Any breed suggestions? TBH I'd happily bring them in here tomorrow.

Alfie1, if you find any...you seem to have a knack for hearing of critters that need a home...think of me please! Who keeps geese here? Which sort and why?

Also, who keeps quails? Which sort and why? I want eggs more that meat.

Can anyone tellmy head is so full of other birds I can't cope with more choices :o:o[/QUOTE
i like sabastopol because they look good [unusual with split feathers so look like they have a ballet class to go to!] and are gentler nature than others albeit they will hold thier own , they just dont look 2mre80h_th.jpg for trouble. as for quail, IF you go for it, get the largest variety they are hardier. they need to be in a large undercover area . they hate wet, damp, cold. and are easy for birds of pray to pick off if out doors... an old barn/large shed floor with some hay bales is ideal.they can lay like mad when they get going... be carefull u are not sold all males tho as this is a classic "trick" of breeders to get rid...they all look the same so will tell you they are girlies !! a few males peps em up tho !!??
p.s. if you want some guard dog geese im sure i can find you some freebies:j

I hope your cochin turns up.. I hate it when one of my lot goes..

    Alfie.... why ...lol...

edit... with the quail, why dont you wait until the spring, there will be loads of eggs for sale, you could hatch your own..

In our farm/poultry auctions once the first hit of eggs have gone you can normally pick 12-24 quails eggs up for 50p-£1

Yes, good idea. I like buying eggs. :) Just trying to decide what types ATM. Ready made geese would be useful now. The dogs showed me this great new game grandpa taught them when we went out this evening.....
