LIR - You mentioned about your sewage treatment thing - what is it? A digester?
A brand name, though not sure ours is that brand, is Biodisc. Its an alternative to a septic tank. The water that drains out is meant to be drinkable quality. I dont intend to try, but it means you can drain the water into a ditch if you have one handy. We intend to add this to our water conservation supply we think. We are getting very good at farming water, as we retain all our surface water, and even the breeding is going well....what with the wretched spring that sprung. May be I should be thinking about more ponds and water fowl:D:D0 -
Oh, expensive.
Nothing to stop you having an outside dry toilet? We had one where we used to live. You should have two buckets - one for solids & one for wee.
I grew a cabbage that weighed 22lbs & you should of seen my pumpkins, but you have to leave humanure a while before spreading it on the garden!
I used sawdust on top of the solid - no smell = very clean. Emptied the solids bucket into a corrugated iron drum thing wit a cover on & left it - like really good crumbly compost after a while. Wee bucket was emptied onto the compost heap.0 -
Oh, expensive.
weirdly, the cheapest solution for us here (when buildings regs etc are considered. ) Also the option Planners like best.;)
I think any dry loo we have for outside will have to go for the garden...because we might gate sale some veg...not sure what regulations are over that!0 -
Just wanted to say hello again, I am still lurking but don't post. When I saw my name come up I thought I had been posting in my sleep, lol.
Still trying to save for the dream small house with big garden and no morgage. Seems ages away but I take small steps each month towards it.
I am collecting two more chickens on Sunday from the rescue centre, Mr Fox got three since September. The two that are left get on really well. I hope that bringing two more in will be ok and they wont fight too much, will see.Without overpayments: 15 years, 1 monthsBecause of overpayments: 10 years, 10 months left until paid off0 -

Sometimes those years just happen....foxes, buzzards, dogs
You might find they stay in two pairs for a while. We had two marans who came to us from a great young chicken breeder not so long ago and they stayed in a coop together for a long while before being robust enough to join the rest of the flock, they stayed very dear friends forever, going to lay together, when one got broody the other hoovered about inside the house, etc etc. A buzzard got one of themand the other was never quite the same, though she integrated with the older crowd of birds she was never quite as carefree ....she went with an abcess a few weeks ago

It is privet, will it not die at this time of the year if I plant it out? We have 10cm of snow at the moment am I better to wait until spring?
Rummer, there's some sort of privet disease around. My Counsellor had to take up the privet hedge between her and her neighbour. I'm sorry, I don't know what it's called or if it's treatable. So do keep an eye on your hedge.
StitchingWitch, so sorry to hear about your FiL. Good that you're there to help out MiL.0 -

Privet is very prone to honey fungus, if there's any about, and it can suffer from wilt, another fungal disease, or from spider mite attack, but I don't think there's anything new in the disease line.
Box has suffered a lot in recent years from a relatively new disease, box blight.0 -

Stitching Witch sorry to hear of your FIL - it's sad at anytime but nearish Christmas is sad for you all.
Good that you've managed to pay back the TC overpayment - we got caught up in that a few years back - Grrrr - seemed ages to get clear. Thing is we could probably have claimed Tc these past couple of years but we felt sickened with the last carry on we'd had & stayed clear.
Choille/Stitching Witch, we got caught with tax credit repayment as well. We just couldnt believe a system could be so hopeless, no one could work out what was due, we were paid far too much but they kept shovelling it into our account. Then they wanted it all back. Unlike most benefits there was no way that you could work out if you were entitled to amounts or not and , at the other end of the phone, it was "computer says yes". Barmy system and like you we have avoided it since.
Stitching Witch, sorry about your Fil, just glad he had a good innings.
Well, thats a first for this December, its not frozen outside :j
Very domestic yesterday, made Delia's braised red cabbage and apple and froze some while DW made a crimbo cake. Looks like some of the apples in the garage have frozen despite being covered by a tarp. Suppose thats what 3 weeks sub zero temps does0
