lol.... yes i am a 'rag lady' but in all honesty i dont get rolls of fabric, i get curtains clothes etc, and maybe smaller amounts of fabric in which in most cases is either naff or vintage:D which is my love...so i tend to keep these bits....for my secret stash:p
is there a market or something with cheap fabric? i am sure there might be some on ebay, i will take a nose and see if there is any good sellers for you
i am sooooooooooo glad its the weekend, finished work early today, and its piddling down, so cant do anything in the garden:o, so i think i am going to have a bit of a crafty night to un-wind, maybe make some cards or play around with the sewing machine...lol...[/QUOTE]
THanks CTC.
No markets near me really. As I live in a touristy area all the market mainly sell tat! I've looked on ebay but its so difficult choosing. I guess I will have to do some hunting!sealed pot challange #572!Garden fund - £0!!:D£0/£10k0 -
Well done CTC!!! I have now opened my ISA with the grand total of £1! But it is a start and things can only get better! Only down side is there has now been a muck up with the bank so that needs sorted before anything else happens.
Although on one of my review sites there is a promotion to write 25 reviews this month so need to get off my bottom and get 25 reviews written!!! Although I have been watching a lot of films with OH.
Mind you he is being a right so and so this morning. My dad signed DD1 up for a ribbon dancing class and OH is adamant she is not going to it and being a right horror bag about things. She does have cheerleading and drama that she goes to and wants to give up cheerleading but he just wont let her.
Men!!!
Right its starting to brighten up so I'm off into the garden ... he thinks he's so great he can get on with the rest of the house and see how he likes it lol!
Again well done CTC you are doing so well ... I'm jealous lol xxLBM - August 2008 - Debts then - £33390 - 2nd LBM - November 2009 - Debts then - £18500:mad:

lol... MEN.. i know how you feel.....thanks for the thanks...:T but dont be jealous, just lets all hold cyber hands and help each other..
glad you have opened up am isa and hay a £ is a £1, and this is the best way to start, just put in what you can, even if its just a few pennies here and there, it will all add up. by the way what review site has the 25 review thing on? i havent been on dooyoo for ages, really do need to get back and do a few reviews on there
Mambuy..... it might be worth asking in the local area board, to see if anyone knows of some cheap fabric shops or warehouse etc... have you got a dunelam mill near you ? they tend to have some nice fabrics at a good price, might also be worth looking in charity shops for curtains, etc.
also you can get cheap duvet covers these days which could be worth using just for the fabric.
another cheaper option is calica and just add a panel of nice laura ashley fabric or something.... and make some cushions, oneside calico and the otherside matching fabric with the panel in the curtain. just a few ideas for you.Work to live= not live to work0 -
I know a few properties round here have successfully had the agri tie removed from the property. It might be worth investigating if this is possible for you, might just take the pressure off.
Thanks Mambury, but to do that you need to put it on the market (at a sensible price) for about 18 months and not sell it! At that point you will have shown there is no demand for it, so they'll consider removing the tie.
An instant result is that the value increases about 30%.
I had the pleasure of trying to view two properties that fell into that category years ago. On the the first we tried to do a drive-by and the farmer blocked our way, denying there was anything for sale and accusing us of 'casing' his place for a burglary. We nearly wet ourselves laughing over that and, as it was only an acre and overpriced, moved swiftly on. The second one was near Usk and we actually got to view it, but the agent and the old widow who owned it did their level best to put us off, saying how awful the neighbours were (they were 1/4 mile away!) and pointing out all the problems we might have in such a 'remote' area. The land and location weren't suitable, so they needn't have worried!
CTC has mentioned the fact that we go out and sell plants in markets etc, but we want to stop doing that for health reasons and also because running a blooming great van, paying stall fees, insurance and all the other things just eats into your profit.
I will enquire on Tuesday whether we are entitled to retire to this place, which will give me an insight into how the planners in this locality view things. Some are a lot more laid-back than others. We have worked-out what we could do there, and the likely returns would be quite low, but that in itself wouldn't bother us. If we happened to do better than expected, that would just be a bonus.0 -
Davesnave you could try ebay or mail order style sales, or even wholesale to local shops selling plants.
but on saying that maybe just growing your own food etc would be best, as long as you got enough money to pay the essential bills,
could you get away with just having a few chickens and a sheep, or even a pig to warrent the agri ties:rotfl: well you never know, or compost farm lol....Work to live= not live to work0 -

Yes, the possibility exists for us to grow for the National Trust or similar organisations. I've noticed that places with open gardens are very poor at having the plants in their garden on sale, or at least the one you want is never there! So, yes, I'd definitely look into that.;)
The Ag tie supervision is variable, but a few sheep & chickens wouldn't normally keep us on the right side of the law. But our argument is that we have been in agriculture for the past 13 years and our last employment was entirely agriculture (horticulture is the same legally) for which we have tax and tax credit documentation, so we might be eligible to retire there anyway. My DW isn't near retirement age, but I am.0 -
Hi CTC, not really jealous, just wish we didn't have a mountain of debt to pay off before we can think about our dream lol.
I write on Dooyoo, Ciao UK, Ciao US and Epinions. Its Epinions that has the 25 review promo this month. Well I write a review and post it on all 4 sites! I just say on my profile that I post my reviews on other sites and have had no problems so far. My only problem is getting the time to write in peace lol.
OH went off out for a drive and came back and I haven't spoken to him since he came back in!
Well I do have a tin full of change and have started on another! Once they are full am going to pay them into hubby's bank account as he is with HSBC for his wages and they have a machine where you just tip the money in and it counts it for you. When we know how much it is, hubby will just take the money out and I will pay it into my ISA. Am also going to pay in my ciao uk earnings when they reach a certain level! And epinions pay by cheque when you reach $100. It takes a while but the promotions always help to boost earnings!
I keep checking the local properties just in case I see one going for pennies! But the only problem is that even land is extortionately priced up here. But will keep my eyes open and remain hopeful.
For next year, we are going to take cuttings from rosemary, bay tree and the other herbs and try and get a stall at one of the farmers markets and try and sell the cuttings cheaper than the supermarkets and garden centres. That should bring in some pennies then but for now am off to look and see what needs listing on ebay (and I know I have OH's mess dress as he no longer needs it and it has never been worn!!!) Going to list that for £500 minimum as it cost us £800+ and he never wore it.
Then back to looking thru paperwork to see what DD2 can rip up for the big bag for Derek's feed!
ps I have written on the blog and sent you a comment on yours CTC but have to write some more but need to do more lol
take care al and will write more later ... i promise to try lol xxLBM - August 2008 - Debts then - £33390 - 2nd LBM - November 2009 - Debts then - £18500:mad:

Thanks CTC! Every little helps like the man on the telly says lol. Lucky you with the rotavator! We need to get one from somewhere as our back garden just seems to be full of rubble and rubbish covered in grass! It's like an obstacle course lol.
Right am off to do some housework (boo) and then hubby is getting sent off when he gets back. Have acquired some grape hyacinth bulbs on freecycle so he will have to go and collect them for me. That;s what he gets for not taking his phone to work with him hahaha.

morning all......
Well things are really starting to happen here at Mambury Towers. At the moment I have a very large digger sitting in my garden waiting for the nice digger man to come round tomorrow and start digging the new soak away. I was only told last night so I had a frantic morning diggin up my black and red currant bushes and both my apple trees. I really hope that I haven;t upset them too much! I have put them all in pots and given them a good watering until I decide where to put them once all the destruction has finished!
I forgot how much I like being out in the garden. I haven;t been able to garden properly because of the problem with the soak away, but now that is going to be sorted tomorrow I can start thinking about putting some veg in in the next few weeks. Any suggestions what I can get away with putting in late?
THe only down side to the soak away being sorted is that the base that had ben laid for my previous greenhouse (the one that got away!) has to be ripped up so I will have to save a bit more before I can get another.
The foundations for the extension will be dug and laid in the next fortnight too so all go on that front!
Off to have a cuppa and some choccie me thinks!
