Hey CTC - read your post about flooding the market with wellies - just wait until there are floods again somewhere, or a wet weekend for a festival - wellies are always sold out in no time, you'll have to watch the weather forecast then head to where the demand is!
Incidentally how did you start your business? I've been thinking of doing something with recycling building material surplus but not sure how to get started!0 -
Hey guys
My funds are going badly, I had to pay for a whole heap of things on the CC so it hasn't gone down at all, in fact I think it has gone up! So demoralising! On the age front I am in my early 30s.
The seedlings in the GH are coming on well but my raised beds seem to be getting full of weeds so loads more weeding to do.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Evening everyone
Don't get disheartened Rummer -I'm sure you will make a dent in the CC balance soon :T
I have managed to get quite a lot done in the garden -well with lots of help from hubby ;)I come up with the ideas and he makes them reality
this is our latest...a "pea fence" -I was trying to find somewhere for all the short peas and here is what I came up with and hubby made-just leftover poles from the arches and some wire I didn't think I would find a use for this season :j
Im going to plant out some peas soon and then set some more -which will hopefully be ready by the time the first lot have done
I have picked up 4 tomato plants(2 varieties) and 2 aubergines the other day -I know Im growing loads from seed (38 to be precise:rotfl:)-but these were varieties I don't have and as they were only 50c each I couldn't resist....
My mini caulis and mini turnips need to be thinned out tomorrow -they seem to have got to a good start outside :T and I have now set my scorzonera, some beetroot and spring onions.
I can't wait to start planting stuff outside as Im getting overtaken by plants in the spare room now :rotfl:
I have stuffed some more loose change into the tin and hubby gets paid on Saturday -so will have €650 to put away :j
Hope everyone is making the most of this lovely weather:D-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
sorry i havent updated for a while i have been sooooooooo busy in work, been working long hours... plus i have had this flu bug, so its really taken its toll on me htis week.
going to work out this weekend how much wages i can take out next week,
MRSM... your pots are looking good, in a few weeks you will be able to save more on your shopping budget:D
Rummer....sometimes things have got to go backwards to go forward, we all have times were we feel we are going backwards... but dont get dis-heartened... there WILL come a time where things fall into place... it just so happens its taken me 15 years to be in a postion to get on top of everything and start knuckling down to try and save some money...and its only hte last few years since i found mse that got me on track with my bills etc and got me where i am now.... really wish mse was around 15 odd years ago...
so dont get down about things.... we all will get there in the end..
trodglodyte......what do you mean by recycling building material surplus? do you mean reclaiming certain features that are pulled out of old houses? old timber. slates, or building rubble?
just give me a guide line of your idea and i will try and help...and find out what type of licenses you need etc...
i have sold some things this week, BUT i cant add this to my fund as i had to buy a new Bigger chicken shed for my chickens and ducks... we are moving them to the waste bit of land at the side of hte house, where we used to have chickens and ducks years ago...Work to live= not live to work0 -
Nothing to report from here. We had a poke around a rather neglected bungalow with acreage on the Somerset / Dorset border this week. It then went on to sell at auction for more than £550k. We had no idea about local prices, but we knew we'd not be close to affording it, and anyway, we didn't like the situation. Still, it was a nice trip out.
We've picked up another local village day to sell at and potted-up a good few dozen more plants too, but it's been a lazy week!0 -

how much:eek:.. i honestly think that certain types of properties havent been affected by the down turn in house prices and the recession/depression
today to be honest i have just been lazing around in my p.j's as this flu has taken its toll on me, plus being in work at 7 am everyday for the last 2 weeks, and it will be the same next week too, but if i want to have wages i got to make sure everything is running smoothly, and get the stuff sorted and through the door, to get paid...lol..
the new chicken shed arrieved today, so is half up...
ooo well better get shake a leg, and get some things done.... need to batch cook some spag bal for the freezer, so i can take some to work next week, save me buying in the cafe, which is the unit right next door to my one.... its lethal... hte smell of bacon wofting into my unit.... shouldnt be aloud:rotfl:Work to live= not live to work0 -
hate smell of bacon wofting into my unit.... shouldnt be aloud:rotfl:
It doesn't sound like much lazing about at your end TBH. I am at the label printing stage, but this computer seemed to have lost all the bed label templates, so I've spent the afternoon re-learning my desktop publishing stuff. Fortunately, the computer that does the stick-in labels has a better memory, or I'd really be stuffed!0 -
DD2 does that to me every breakfast, but with an eye to survival, I only join her weekends with the bacon 'n eggs.

you print your own labels? didnt realise you could do that.
i was thinking of saving some seeds this year, only the easy ones...lol.. like marigolds etc and was going to have a look to see if there was a seed packet/envelope template that i could do and print out.
you have a wicked DD trying to tempt you with the smell of bacon every morning....
well the shed is up and painted, dont think much of the colour, i sent hubby and the youngest to get the paint, after they finished putting it on the shed it started piddling it down, so the shed will prob need touching up tomorrow.
when we were nosing round Nant Hir Farm, there were old Horse shoes hidden in the under growth, so we brought them home, and our youngest has used his little dremmel kit to sand the rust off it, and painted it black, so it will be put on the front chicken shed. along with my sign i bought on ebay
'welcome to the funny farm'
tomorrow hubby is going to put the fence posts and chicken wire up, and get some flor lino for inside the shed. i find its easy to clean out them, plus it saves the wooden floor from rotting, at the first wift of chicken and duck poo:rotfl:
the farm auction is on again next saturday, so will have to have a rummage again and get stuff ready to take..Work to live= not live to work0 -

Yes, you can print stick-in labels, but not for less than a grand! It used to be more, because two companies control the market in specialist plant database programs, but printer prices have dropped. We write our own descriptions, but we still need the program and a thermal printer. It beats the little old lady with her pencil though, which is what we once had. As we have all the stuff, we may as well use it up.
To do inexpensive seed packets, you could use those small manilla envelopes for wages, dinner money etc. You could print on Avery labels using a standard inkjet printer and stick them on. Avery once gave away the program for those, back in the days of floppy disks. I expect there's a modern equivalent.0 -
Good morning!
Congrats on the new chicken shed CTC! I loved the sign when you posted that earlier. I used to keep chickens and have been a big fan ever since - one day we will have some again but at the moment we're away a lot.
Anyway thanks very much for your offer of help. If you don't mind I'll send you a PM as I do tend to ramble and bore everyone! I'd love my own business but neither I nor any of my family or friends have ever run a business so I really have no idea where to start, and I'm one of those people who does like to know what they're doing before starting (anal, that's the word - I always read instructions!)0
