Here I was thinking you were all younger than me...I often feel like I started being wise with money a little too late in the game. That I'll never quite manage to reach my dreams while I'm still young enough to enjoy them.....it's lovely to know that I'm not the only one who has these thoughts and encourages me to keep plodding on!

ok i will go first....i will reveal my age...:rotfl:

i will be 43 in July....

i know what you mean frankieM ... when i think back on how i was with money, and the carp i bought etc, if i was focused and know what i knew now, back then, i am sure i would have saved and bought a smallholding a good while back,

havent long got back from the farm auction.... went really well, sold my cabbage and broad bean plants i took,

so having a nice cuppa, and i will give you a break down on waht sold for what later..

Well done cooltrikerchick. You savings are really adding up. Unfortunately I have to use any savings I have for the couple of months to pay off the vehicles we've just bought. Though I will be selling a vehicle once I get an MOT put on it....it sounds more confusing than it is...needless to say I'm not sure I'll be getting any saving done till July...oh well!
I've spent today getting the house back to some semblance of normality. Hopefully the weather will hold out for tomorrow and I can search out some more seeds and find some trays/ pots to plant in.
We don't really have farmers markets near us. The local fruit and veg market sometimes sells seedlings but its hit and miss. I certainly don't think there would be a market for me to sell stuff.
I think we are vearing more towards a B&B or campsite / petting zoo / pub kind of thing. Hospitality is more our thing.

That's a tidy sum for your cast offs and a few plants CTC.

I'm a 35 year old trapped on the body of a bloke aged 60. I have always been tight where money is concerned; force of habit since my family falling on hard times in the late 50s.

I realise that I'm relatively well-off now, but I also remember how easily a secure situation can turn into something else. It's fairly obvious that recent governments haven't valued those who've provided for their old age, so my plan is to be asset-rich and cash poor.

What better asset than a smallholding?

    Evening all

Well done on reaching your first £1000 Cooltrikerchick :T

Joining in the age confessions -I'm 37 and hubby is 44-going on 8 ;)

It has been a bit overcast here today -but in a way Im glad as this morning I finished putting strawberries into the hanging bags and hubby constructed my "strawberry table" -so i planted that up too, so the lack of sun will give them time to settle in :D
Apart from that -today I have :-
    1. transplanted the rest of the sweet potato slips into the dustbins
    2. hubby has finished attatching strings to the tubs/arches to make wigwams for my beans
    3. transplanted the celery (teeny tiny seedlings they are) into individual pots
    4. and the first of the pak choi into individual pots
    5. moved 20 of the tomatoes up into cut down 1lt milk cartons -so they are now tiny again -but the stem/roots go right to the bottom of the cartons -so they should make nice strong plants ;)-still have 18 more than will need the same treatement soon
    6. potted up the chilli/pepper/aubergines into bigger pots
So I'm pooped -oh and tidied up the spare room where al my potting goes on and all my plants live for now...

I have added more change to the tin -and must remember to get the load I saw in the car next time Im out :p

I think thats about me for today... might get a few more bits done tomorrow :D

MRSM you have been busy again today....do you ever sit down...:rotfl:

Davesnave....they are not really my cast off's as such, i own a textile recycling business, so they came into work, and i try and find the right place to sell the various grades of textiles, and what better place to sell wellies and wax jackets, a farm auction.....lol..

i have a huge pile of practically new wellies of various sizes, so i will take one or two pairs every time i go to the auction, dont want to flood the market in one go with them,...lol...will also take a few pairs of jeans too, to see how much they fetch

i have some more cabbage plants to go next time, along with some lettuce etc...

need to plant sow some peas tomorrow i think as they will grow in no time, so they can go as well, ( dont want to sell the ones i have planted for myself)

bought some well established trailing petunias today, so i will take loads of cuttings from them over the next few days, and bring them on, ready to put into the hanging baskets i got for free....:D, so i am hoping htey will sell well in the auction

i am hoping that i will be one step ahead in the plant department ni the auction so to speak, as in a month or so, there will be loads of plants there

FrankieM....do you buy and sell cars? you have some lovely ideas, a campsite and a 'pet zoo' would work hand in hand with each other, so that could be a very good option, even though you may not be able to save anything at the moment, you could allways get yourself a sealed tin and just save some of your loose change etc, its suprising how much that will add up, and it all helps in the long run...

Sell cars....you could easily get that impression at the moment.....but, no, we don't. We are just sorting out our cars....I have a car, DH has a car and then we have a campervan. The plan originally was to put a new engine in the campervan and get it on the road. Then the cam belt on my car broke so we put the campervan through an MOT and it needed welding...we thought perhaps it would be best to get a campervan that was more 'solid' so we have bought a new campervan that's currently in South Africa, but we will be selling the one we currently have to help pay for it.
Then my DH's car...it has a slight electrical problem so he has bought a 1972 beetle that needs an MOT but once it has one then I'll be using DH's old car till mine gets to the UK.
It's all very long winded but makes sense to us...unfortunately it means we currently have 4 cars on the drive but it will eventually work its way down to 2...eventually!

My DH came up with the idea of a petting zoo...we were discussing what kind of business we could start and as we've had lodgers before and would like a small holding...it kinda made sense....once we get to July I can start putting money away again. We have a OneAccount mortgage so whatever we save pays off the mortgage and vice versa....I live in hope...it'll probably just take a little longer than I'd like but that's just a side effect of our 'have it all now' culture.

Hi everyone...It's lovely and sunny here. I've had a glass of wine and a little nap! Just waiting for the roast pork to cook and then afterwards I think I'm going to search some seeds out and plant up some peppers...

The campervan is from South africa because its a dryer climate so less rust. Aussie ones are good too but there aren't so many of them around, probably cause of the shipping distance...so South Africa it is..

I tried to talk a farmer friend into selling me 5 acres...I don't think it was going for it. I figured as he has about 800 acres!!! he wouldn't notice..
