I think it depends on the solicitor more than anything else and what procedures they have in place - mine has been super speedy!! It won't make any difference in the long run though as we both still have to wait for the search results :rolleyes:0 -
Well, what a stressful couple of weeks it's been.
1) After taking over 8 weeks to get their act together, the buyers at the bottom of the chain told everyone they would pull out if they couldn't move in on 24th March.(how cheeky is that!)
2) The Leeds told us that they wouldn't accept our solicitor as he isn't on their panel.
3) There hasn't been much in the way of communication from the solicitor of the house we are buying and we haven't even had the inventory back yet.
4) Our buyers EA is keeping us informed of everything that is happening and we haven't heard fom our EA in two weeks.
5) Our mortgage forms have been sent out twice and we still haven't received them.
6) We waited in for over an hour for a removal firm as they had an appointment with us to give us a quote.
7)Oh, and my boss can't allow me all the time off i've asked for to move house!
So all in all, it's been a fabulous couple of weeks
Needless to say that i have had to sort most of this out myself.
1) Held firm and explained about points 2,3 & 5 and have now agreed a date of 31/03/06.
2) Our solicitor called them and they faxed him a form to fill in for him to apply to be put on their panel. 3 Days on and he has been accepted.
3) Tricky one, as our solicitor is v.oldfashioned. He won't use the telephone unless it's before 8am, after 6pm or a weekend. He also uses 2nd class stamps on everything. I have rang my vendors solicitors and told them to get a shifty on, even though she kept saying, "Ican't speak to you, I can't speak to you", all the way through my rant.
4) Again a tricky one, but i am certainly going to look into getting a discount although my mortgage advisor says he's done his job by selling our house and that we will have to cough up.
5) Will do a 24 mile round trip tomorrow and sign them there and then.
6) Their loss, plenty more firms to call.
7) Have cut the time off i asked for down and will just have to spend eves and w/ends packing.
As you can see, things are finally coming together although with a bit of a fight. We will get there in the end and look back and laugh. It's been great having other people in the same boat to talk to.
Mummytofour, i was glad to hear you are finally sorted now. Just in the nick of time

I'm still waiting to exchange, everyone has been waiting since January. The lady at the top of the chain now hopes to be ready within the next two weeks (where have I heard that before?).
Our buyers exchanged on their sale today (under pressure) so the chain is down to 4. Our buyer has been looking at other properties, he even put in an offer on 2 but they weren't accepted. He says he prefers our house and will wait another 1-2 weeks.
Still don't know if we'll get there.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Hello everybody,
can we please have an update of how all the posters on this thread are doing. Are you all in yet?
Mine have been a troublesome couple of months!
1) Moved into new house as arranged 31/03/06
2) Early April returned to work for 2 days then lost job
3) Mid April claimed JSA
4) Late April wrote to employer for money owed
5) Mid June finally got paid JSA
6) Late June 0% ran out on CC and am racking up approx £1 per day interest
7) Early July Still no money from x employer
8) Presently broke and depressed and using as many money saving/making tips from these boards as possible
GOD BLESS MSE, WHERE WOULD WE BE WITHOUT IT!
How about the rest of you?0 -

We didn't get there!
Our buyer exchanged on his sale and then pulled out of buying our house. Within 2 days we had another offer but our seller suddenly had 3 people chasing his house and we got gazumped. A week later the lady at the top of the chain took her house off the market and the whole chain collapsed.
We continued with our new buyer, found a different house to buy and all was going well until our buyer's buyer failed to get a mortgage. In desperation we decided to do a buy-to-let on our buyer's buyer's house! Whole chain exchanged last week, completion due on Tuesday.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Since it is no chain, our chain is now closed. Our mortgage application is being processed, as is everyone else's. Our buyers doesn't know whether she will bother with a survey yet, but has already spent money on searches and other legal expenses, and has been back to measure up for furniture. So hopefully she is committed. Our agent seems to think that we'll be exchanging at the end of the month and completing some time in the second or third week of April.
Everything went thought as planned, except timescales slipped a couple of weeks forward. We completed on 12th May.0 -
It is sooo stressful. We didn't get there.I was stressed selling the house and showing people around and not knowing when the next viewers would come. Then stressed negotiating the offer then stressed negotiating the offer on our purchase. Then it was stressful getting survey and things done and waiting for all that news ,then stressed getting to exchange ,then even more stressed when bottom buyer pulled out the day before!!!! Now we're stressed waiting for my buyer to get another buyer, then of course if that happens, we'll be stressed waiting to exchange again and then stressing to complete and then stressed moving all the stuff and then stressed sorting out the new house. Then it'll be Christmas and we'll get stressed doign the shopping.Hahaha
Does anyone think I'm stressed???0 -
