At the other end of the chain, the FTBs have issued an ultimatum to my buyer, either he exchanges this week with completion in April or they are walking away. He has offered to pay my removal costs if I go into rented. I can't do this in case our purchase doesn't happen, leaving us unable to find a house we like. I really thought he would exchange with the FTBs rather than lose a buyer it has taken him 2 years to get, but he says he won't.[/QUOTE]

Why should you move into rented? Why doesn't your buyer do that, after all it is his house sale which is in jeopardy! And you're expecting a baby! Unbelieveable.
  • That is a very complicated probate OP. We waited 14 weeks for our buyer to get probate on her mother`s house and it was relatively uncomplicated. Only at the last moment did she know for sure that she would have enough money to buy our house. We waited for her because she laid her cards on the table. We then went into rented because we thought that a bird in the hand etc. It does take some of the worry away by selling and going into rented and it looks as though your sale will happen if you do that.

    Best of luck OP

I'm not pregnant -that's someone else on here.

He wants me to go into rented because it is hard to move with 2 young babies; I said its harder to move with kids doing GCSE's this summer. Anyway I like my house and will happily stay here if the sale falls through. Even he acknowledges I could easily get another buyer at the price we have agreed if he drops out; he offered on our house the day it went on the market, he has taken ages to find a buyer.

If only he had one!! He works for a public body so there's no money to spare for such luxuries.

Might be a good thing though as she'd probably have handed in her notice by now having to deal with all the stress lol

Well my ultimatum has seemed to pay off(for now)

As promised, i stopped ringing them and just tried to forget about it all.

Monday - Our EA called to tell us our buyers house had had the full structural and all is ok and their sale is now progressing.

Yesterday - Our EA called to tell us that our buyer had been in to pay for their survey on our house and that we should be receiving a call from a surveyor to make an appointment with us. 1 hr later surveyor called and we will be having our house surveyed tommorrow(wed) @ 2pm. :)

I had given them until this Friday to sort the survey or i was pulling out. I wish i hadn't had to resort to blackmail, but it seems that it's the only language they understand.

Apparently our buyers EA told them that we were pulling out and the lady sat in the middle of the shop crying and saying how much she loved our house. I feel really guilty about that, but something had to be done or we would probably still be sat here waiting for news.

I am trying not to get too excited as i know what this house buying/selling lark is like. I will only breathe easy once i am sat on my decking with champagne in hand.

I would like to thank Mummytofour for all her support so far and anyone else who has replied to my various posts around the site. I wish everyone the best of luck.

P.S - If you want help from the OH then you'll have to come down with a bug or something. I have been laid up for 3 days with that nasty sicky flu thing and he has had to deal with everything ;)

EA called this morning and said our survey report had come back and there was absolutely nothing wrong with our house(not bad for a 120 yrs old).

Our buyers are delighted and we will be having the survey done on our new house next week. It's only 5 yrs old so there shouldn't be any problems.

We are going to do a few measurements on Monday morning and we will be asking them(top of the chain) when they want to exchange/complete.

I know it's not over till the fat lady sings, but i can't help getting a bit excited.

Is anyone else here any further on?

MTF, how are things with you?

I'm still waiting, as is everyone else in the chain except for the first time buyers who are now looking for other properties. If they find one they will pull out of the chain and thats the end. The woman at the top still hasn't sorted out her late husband's debts and doesn't seem to care if the chain collapses.

We put an offer on a house just over a week ago, and this was accepted :) Since it is no chain, our chain is now closed. Our mortgage application is being processed, as is everyone else's. Our buyers doesn't know whether she will bother with a survey yet, but has already spent money on searches and other legal expenses, and has been back to measure up for furniture. So hopefully she is committed. Our agent seems to think that we'll be exchanging at the end of the month and completing some time in the second or third week of April.

Congratulations Donna on kicking things into motion again. Silvercar, I am sorry to hear the woman at the top doesn't want to budge, perhaps you'd all be better off looking for another property :( Hope the situation changes soon in your favour though.
