I did wonder (a long time ago) deep pockets whether Mr T's was the bad guy of the supermarket world. Suddenly they're actually looking quite angelic! ......and I never thought I'd say that.

And I thought I was the only one who noticed how incredibly pricey LIDL has become. For example tinned toms were often one of the cheaper items you could buy and I remember paying 9p for them in LIDL. The same toms are now 39p and thats the same price as Tesco's, Sainsburys etc.

Similar to others here I have watched as the cheaper supermkts LIDL, ALDI etc. now sell at the same prices and in many instances are more expensive than the leaders !!

We have to shop far more carefully than before. Got to agree with Geordie_ Bear what is with the fort knox style exits?

I agree tinned tomatoes, jam and bread flour were staples I always used to buy at Lidl but now.......well they have all rocketed! The bread flour costs the same as Waitrose (I know where I would rather buy it!), the jam has doubled (although still worth it) and the toms have gone up by a third!
Get it together Lidl or you will lose or your loyal customers.....
  • Hubby thought he would go shopping at Lidls yesterday and he paid. But when we got home I badgered him for receipt because I was surprised how much it cost. As its just opened I've had a good nosey around and now what is cheaper and worth buying and what not to. My bill for shopping is around £250 a month for 6 of us but that includes 1 day of school dinners on a friday and a box of wine. But the only way I can do that is to meal plan, cook from scratch, buy basics online monthly with free delivery code and buy milk, bread on offer/reduced. Fruit and veg from greengrocer and meat from the butchers.
    Grocery challenge june £300/ £211-50.
    Grocery challenge july £300/£134-85.

I shop a mixture between Asda (for most of the stuff) Home Bargains (loo roll/cleaning stuff) and Aldi, for the german ham which hubby loves and the catfood, which the cat loves!
We also prefer the lemonade from Aldi which is slightly cheaper than Asda anyhow
But agree, the price of a few things has rocketed lately!
Don't bother with Lidl, I used to, but since the bread flour shot up in price its easier to get it delivered with my monthly Asda shop (delivery driver loves me, not :rotfl:)

    Hi ,

I haven't been to lidl for ages but was intending to go later this week ....

I didn't realise that their prices had gone up so much ....

Would anybody happen to know how much their Sunnyglade tins of beans & sausages are at the moment ? ...... They were 33p the last time i went ( about 6 months ago ! ) ..... If they have gone up too much it will save me going on a " 5 mile hike " to get there !

I'm also noticing how the difference in price between Aldi/Lidl on the one hand and the Big Four supermarkets on the other hand has shrunk to some negligible quantity, in the penny range, if at all.

Someone explain that to me. Are the discounters determined to lose their USP (marketing speech, unique selling position) and thus render themselves superfluous?

Why would people put up with minimal service, minimal staff, minimal choice and being driven through the tills like cattle, when there are no actual savings to be made?

Have the discounters lost the plot? I'm serious.

Again, like most of you I was very surprised at the hike in prices at Aldi & Lidl, to be honest I dont think there is much that I would buy there now. The exceptions are the continental cold meats, aldi peanut butter (which is the best), lidl fresh lasagne and the multi vitamin juice. I'm afraid Mr T has won back the majority of my shopping budget.

Not 100% certain but I think they were 67p. They're next to the ravioli I used to get which is now 10p dearer than Tesco's.
