All stores are doing it esp with the lower priced or value items. I went into my Tesco again last week and some green tea I used to pay 64p for is now 81p!
You'd have to pay me to buy green tea lol, and have to anaesthetise me to drink it  .

I haven't been to Lidl in a long time (too far away), but still often visit Aldi and find them generally good value for many things. I mostly go for their super six fruit and vegtables, which are the cheapest I've ever seen these items.

I also buy their fruit juice, yoghurt and milk, which are all cheaper than other local supermarkets.

Totally agree with others. Shopping around is the best if you have the time. I only go to Aldi or Lidl now if I want to stock up on something that's on offer and while I'm there might buy cheap fruit & veg. Otherwise go to Asda with a list and don't be tempted!!
  • I thought it was just me that thought it wasn't much cheaper than Tesco etc.
I do nip in 2/3 times a month for the stuff that I like and know is a bit cheaper.
I'm lucky enough to have most of the major supermarkets around me so I can go between them all to get the current best offers.

I think the time of ridiculously cheap food is over.
    .
We are on a tight budget so when food costs more other things have to be reduced but thats life.

Orkney the sad thing in my life is that I have cut everything out but the food prices just rise and rise. I have had to stop the fresh fruit and veg and start to eat less healthy with dinners of say value noodles etc.It is a very sad fact of life to me that even with my miniscule appetite, you cannot cut food out to save money. There is just nothing else I can do to save money except stop eating. :( It is just fuel to me and a very much annoyance as an expense.

Lidl has got expensive, I had not been in for about 6 weeks and then when I did I got a big shock!

Meat had gone up alot and bread flour was 48p was now 75p! yougarts had also gone up alot.

We have recently got an Aldi and was realy looking forward to it, I must say i was disapointed, cereal was really expensive.

Went tomorrisons this week and ended up putting too much in my trolly, so going to do an online shop and see how that goes.
  • I used to buy white bread flour at Lidl at a cost of 48p for 1.5kg. I went in last week and it had gone up to 75p. I was horrified and wont be rushing back.

There are 2 lidls near to me, the small one in the town centre is really good, but the big one in the out of town housing estates is about 5 - 10p dearer on everything.

I must admit I've been into Lidl and Aldi's and I don't see the fuss. there's hardly any choice (I use creme fraiche a bit in cooking and they don't sell it), many of their tinned products like beans etc had more salt in them than the Sainsbury's basics version so was massively put off there.
Shall stick to Sainsbury's basics, yes they've risen in prices as they pushing this "drop a brand" and taking advantage of the situation, but at least I can get everything I need rather than having to go to different shops at opposite ends of a 3 mile street.
