Since when did Lidl become SO expensive?????

i had been thinking the same about aldi and lidl, they no longer save me as much money as they used to. I do think some of their things may cost the same as asda but are better quality. Sad thing is even asda is annoying me at the moment as i can prove that quite a few things they are rolling back are being done so at a higher price than i paid a couple of weeks before.
where i am i feel we're now reaping the consequences of supermarket shopping as i can no longer find a grocers etc so am left with very little choice.0 -
I've only been into Lidl once in the last six months and discovered that the only thing cheaper than in Mr Ts was a bag of carrots. Everything else was the same price or more expensive.
I only have around £110-£125 to spend a month on food for the two of us plus three cats and two hedgehogs. I discovered yesterday that the usual cheap brand of cat food that feeds all the pets has gone up by £1.40 for a 12 pack in the last week. Even switching to the next cheapest brand adds £1.13 per pack, adding another £6-7 to my monthly bill, so I have to adjust the amount and quality of food we eat to compensate.
Reverbe, I'm starting to feel a bit like you do - am I going to have to sacrifice healthy eating to make budgets work? I've decided to grow more of my own food this year to help combat this - could you do the same? Cut and come again salad leaves are easy to grow, even on a windowsill, so you could get some fresh stuff every day there. Throw in some herbs and you have the basis for a fresh salad once a day.
A slightly more ambitious idea - could you keep a couple of chickens?"carpe that diem"0 -
I think I'll be looking at growing my own too. Only grew potatoes last year as an experiment. So only had enough for about 2 weeks eating but it was 2 weeks I wasn't spending on potatoes iyswim.
Although the Euro's gone up I can't see how this would affect the UK sourced items for Aldi and Lidl. The millionaire shortbread for both stores (and M&S, Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's and Thorntons) is made in a factory near where I live yet is just another item where the price has gone up in Aldi & Lidl (yet hasn't in the other stores).CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Take care. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
where is it you shop then, what supermarkets do you have available to you
Tescos - in a medium sized poorly stocked version and a medium to large Sainsburys which I don't go to very often as I end up spending a lot there due to the nice food they have. We also have an M&S and a very poor tiny Iceland. That is the only access I have as I neither drive nor have access to a car. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -

Lidl has become a bit dearer since it started stocking named brands e.g Lenor etc.
Reverbe - try using your local greengrocer as their prices will be cheaper. I went to mine the other day and bought half a dozen eggs (some had a bit of poo on them but i am not eating the shells so it doesnt matter) and a cauliflower and my bill came to £1 - even when I buy other veg I never spend more than £2 in my local shop. Right next door to my local greengrocer is a Tesco and I only go in there for washing powder and to look at their whoopsie shelf.
Guess, I am lucky as I will spread my money about: village greengrocer, butcher, tesco, co-op and then on occasion will drive over to Lidl.0 -
..I never shop at Aldi's or Lidl's! I shop in Netto's when they've got a decent offer in & just buy the offer & nothing else & if it's gone I walk out or at least I try to! Have you ever tried getting out of these shops when you've bought nothing? It's easier to get in to fort knox !!!!!!! I realise it's to stop thefts but what if you've bought nowt? You have to try & hop over those barriers at the vacent checkouts or wait till someone comes in to run out of the entrance! Makes you look like a tea leaf :mad:0

I think thats to guilt you into buying something. Not nice if you ask me.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. used to buy 1l cartons of skimmed uht milk from tescos then price shot up30% which asda, sainsburys also price matched at 54p/litre.
so i started buying it at aldi & lidl both of which charged 44p/litre making a significant saving on a weekly shop/
their price both then jumped up to 49p/litre and 2 weeks ago it went up to 54p the same as tescos and the rest.
so you can shop at aldi or lidl , have to pay in cash or debit card or shop at tescos ,get clubcard points and pay by a credit card paying me 3% cashback.
now theres a hard choice to make!!0
