Drooling after reading this. It was a friday lunch pudding. It rocked, litterally too! Im going to have to try it!
The other one i still have to find a recipe for is our chocolate cornflake cakes. The did something "different" to all others i've tried. I think they might have used golden syrup and coco powder instead of chocloate. We used to have to pay the 6th form people to get them for us as they often had frees before lunch.0 -
Hi Everyone, Believe it or not, this is the only place on the Net I could find a recipe for gypsy pie! I know this conversation took place three years ago, but I'm glad to find it! By the way, could the "white cream" Halloweenqueen remembers be "white custard"? Here is a recipe: Make white custard using one and a half pints of milk, two well-heaped tablespoons of cornflour slaked in a little of the milk and 3 level tablespoons caster sugar. Heat the milk almost to boiling point, pour onto the cornflour/milk/sugar mixture and return to the saucepan, stirring until thickened. Turn the heat to very low and simmer for a few minutes to let the starch cook out.
Sometimes simple recipes can be wonderful.0 -
Thanks but it wasn't a custard, it was like foam to be honest, very light and super white lots of bubbles, probably sweet as hell!! It was usually served with huge cookies because it wasn't a 'wet' sauce as such just gorgeous!! Appreciate your suggestion though!!0

Hi smitty,
We have an older thread that should help so I've added your post to it to keep all the replies together.
I think there are other recipes in this thread too: School days recipes

We called it "Brick". Was it a sort of chocolate shortbread? (score n ten since I left school!) only it wasn't at all short, very solid but nice and filling.
I loved jam swiss roll with caramel custard.....oooh, heaven! Actually all the puds were nice (as long as you gave the lumpy custard a miss) it was the main courses that were inedible! I can still see dog meat stew, string beans (cooked for 4 hours!) and lumpy mash, ewwwww!0 -

I had no idea what this pudding was called, but thanks, it's in the oven now as I type!
Anyone get a mint custard recipe (rather than just essence to normal custard)?0
