And, you know, they still put sultanas in curry (according to my OH, no he's not the world's oldest school kid, he's a teacher and yes, despite being married to a pretty darned hot cook - me- he has school dinners)(mind you I sometimes surprise him with a packed lunch and like to drop it off in the school office in a Postman Pat lunchbox).
Did anyone go to a Catholic Upper School and have to 50p (in 1989) for a cup of soup and a roll in aid of CAFOD? Now, I'm happy to do my bit, really I am, but it always seemed to be the day I was really really hungry and had missed my breakfast.....perhaps that was the point..
Sorry, I'll go now...0 -

I work in a school and the cook still makes the cheese pie, although the one that she does is cheese and rice flan not with potatoes. Will have to see if she can give me the recipe. Have a reciepe for chocolate crunch if anybody wants it.If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................

oohhh would love to try those recipes please In for a Bargain.
The sad thing today is that schools which are being rebuilt are only being equipped with cook/chill facilities as a rule, so the meals are likethose you get in hospitals and about as appetising. My daughter's school - 450 kids - has a tiny room where ready pre-pared meals are just reheated.
It's heartbreaking.0 -

Manchester Tart is a pastry with a layer of red jam (any sort) a layer of thick custard, and coconut spread on top, and baked. We love it!
I was going to post that Manchester Tart was not my favourite! How did they think that up?"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Will have to try and get the cheese and rice flan one but here goes for the chocolate crunch. It is actually a recipe from a school kitchen. Also it is quite old and still in ounces hope that is ok.
Chocolate crunch Quantity 10
8 oz margarine, 11oz flour, 8oz sugar, 1 1/2 oz cocoa, 1/2 tsp vanilla essence. Oven temp 325oF, 170oC or Gas No.3.
1. Melt margarine in saucepan. Add vanilla essence. 2. Mix all dry ingredients in mixer bowl, add margaine. 3. Mix well. Divide between greased tins and spread evenly. 4. Make a pattern with a fork. Brush with water and spinkle with sugar. 5. Bake in a slow oven for about 40 minutes. 6. Portion whilst warm and cool on a wire tray.
Happy Baking!!If practice makes perfect, and nobody is perfect....................................
