    Hey Moozie -

    Doing well, nice ! Keep at it.

    2 pence worth of my humble thoughts, may have been mentioned previously but I've not read all of the threads fully since its grown fantastically..!

    Have you or your partner any pension funds you could raid and release their value to ease some of your debts? I'm talking in particular about small pension funds perhaps started at a company you were employed at but left working within a few years having only paid a small amount into. You probably will have to pay a release fee and perhaps a small tax hit on the figures too if you go ahead with it......be sure to scope the idea out fully first.

    May be worth thinking about all this since the chances of them providing much value to you in the future are minimal if they only currently hold small amounts and simply may be better used towards current debts...

    Also, I know you have started already, but get busy ebaying more and more !!!

    Hello Lopo

    Thanks very much for your useful advice. Both our pensions are with a public sector final scheme and we cannot opt in/out. I did consider it a couple of weeks ago but it turns out this wouldn't be the best option in the long term.

    You are so right about ebay. I am just waiting to see how the 5 items go and then put some more on at the end of the week. Hope they sell :o

    Thanks again :)

    Here I am again, back on this thread that has been a complete lifesaver for me. Feeling really down and I don't know where to else to turn :(

    After a very reluctant start, I thought I was doing really well and that had kept me feeling positive over the last few days. I've been logging on everyday, picking up tips from the many knowledgeable MSers and controlling my spending habits like never before.

    But today has been a really hard day. After pay day last week, I worked out all my DDs/minimum payments for the month and realised that in order to not be overdrawn a few days later (as usual), I had £273 to play with this month. Not being overdrawn is important to me as that will prove I'm making progress and I'm in control.

    So I got my £10 spending money for the week (have a challenge going with the OH to not spend more than that on weekdays) and really thought that if all went well, I'd be paying an extra couple of hundred off my debt this month.

    Well, today I got an invoice for some stuff I had done (pre-lightbulb) for £288 :( It has to be paid this month in full. I'm just so gutted. I had completely forgotten about it (stupid me) and now I will be back in the overdraft before the end of the week. I feel like a complete failure for forgetting about it and for spending that money to start with. It makes me question what else I have forgotten and how many more times I will sabotage myself before I learn.

    I am even more upset now than when I started typing this message. What a complete mess :(

    Hey hun, try not to let it get you down too much. We all have these setbacks but the key is to keep going and not to let it ruin all your fab efforts so far. Okay so you will be a bit in your o/d this month, but just think of all the other savings you have made and how much worse it would have been had you still been pre-lightbulb.

    Go get yourself a nice cuppa and have a slice of cyber cake!!

    Oi! Get that chin back up! :naughty:

    You have done fantastically well and this only a minor hiccup! It's not even a setback! :D

    All you do is pay it off and put up with having to use the overdraft temporarily! Then next month you would have paid off more of your debts and be out of your o/d! :T

    Someone said on here the other day that for a few weeks/months at the start of your 'new' life, the 'old' life encroaches, as commitments etc set up before the lightbulb moment still appear for a while.

    Don't worry, things like this happened to the best of us at the beginning, and sometimes still do... :o

    The thing is to think about how bad it would have been if you'd not had that lightbulb moment ;) I am certain you'll have paid off more at the end of this month than you would have done if you hadn't faced up to it all, so think of it as baby steps, you'll get to the big numbers soon, once things settle down, and you have been doing it a while :D

    You'be been an inspiration to a lot of people on here, don't let one mistake detract from everything you've acheived!
    Highest Debt (Sept 04) -> £41,300 :(
    Debt Free - August 2006!! :D

  • Aww hun, you can do this, look at everything you have achieved so far, this is a hic up on the road to being debt free.

    Hi Moozie,

    I hadn't really read any of this thread until now, I read your first post, then clicked on the last page and saw a recent post, including your signature. Even without reading all the inbetween pages hun I can see you really HAVE made progress, you have faced up to things and made a plan and you should be proud of yourself for that!

    I can understand why this unexpected invoice has got you down but remember these things are sent to try us, even if it means you do have to go back into the OD temporarily just stick as closely to your plan apart from it.

    You are NOT a failure- you are a SUCCESS!! This is just a little setback on your path to becoming debt free, and one day you will look back and it will look like such a small thing compared to the huge blow it feels like right now. But remember you are streets ahead of thousands of other people in debt who haven't even faced up to things yet.

    Just the same as nasty unexpected things like this can happen, so can unexpected nice things- you never know what's round the corner :)

    Keep reading all the threads on this board, one thing's for sure all the people who are debt free or almost there have all suffered setbacks like this at some point, but they get there in the end and so will you. Stay positive and you really will get there with the great attitude I can see in your recent posts.

    Take care and keep posting!

    Hi Moozie,

    I think you are doing brilliantly - I couldn't agree more with Chortle - its not like you went out and blew £400 on a handbag, is it? I think you just need to mark this up to experience, pay the bill and move on. Maybe only spend £5 this week (if possible) and save £20 over the month - that might make you feel psycologically a bit better?

    Thinking of you (((((((HUGS))))))

    scottishspendaholic x
    MBNA = £4,000 / Next = £925 (approx. tbc on 19/8)
    Tesco = £2,910.11 / Smile overdraft = £500
    Bank of Scotland = £2,782.83
