Good morning guys!
All packed and ready for our little weekend away!
Today is the end of the grocery and spending week challenge with the other half. I finished the week with 65p out of my £10 and that even included an eyebrow wax for £6!
I am totally amazed really. I have not had any of my Starbucks/Costa coffees on the way to and from work, I have not bought any magazines and I have not gone out to the pub for lunch once! Instead, I have made lunch for myself and OH every day, I picked newspapers and mags that other passengers left on the train and I drunk tonnes of water!
I never thought I'd live on £10 a week but clearly it can be done and it was not all that hard! Last month by this time, my bank account was over £200 overdrawn. Today, I am £79 in credit. :j I think we will carry on with this £10 week challenge. Not every week but at least one week in the month. It obviously helps the bank balance!
As far as the grocery challenge of £20 went for the week, we have 6p left. Not bad considering we bought stuff for our lunch boxes and we had friends over for dinner earlier in the week. Admittedly, we used lots of our freezer/fridge/cupboard ingredients but again, we proved to ourselves that it can be done and without feeling deprived.
We have joined the March grocery challenge and set a budget of £250 and anything that's not spent, will go directly in the OD. We are both competitive and want this to work so 'challenges' are the way
So week two finishes on a high. We have made good progress and we are slowly changing our spending habits. I still find it odd not to carry a credit card around but I just can't trust myself with one yet. One day....Leason learnt :beer:0 -
FAB!!!! Keep going girl!!!
I need challenges too! Brings out the competitiveness doesn't it? I actually get angry with myself now when I spend more than a tenner on my weekly shop! Hello everyone
Back from my very enjoyable weekend and pleased to say I still feel very focused and motivated!
Went through all our receipts from the weekend last night and it seems that my estimate of the cost was pretty close. I am keeping a check on all our accounts on a daily basis now and although we are still getting through payments before our lightbulb moment, things are looking better.
I realised last night though that I had made an error in terms of my share of the joint ODOriginally I had divided the amount we owe by two and thought that would be an accurate reflection but, looking into it deeper last night, I realised that my OH has paid more money into it than I have over the last 6 months. So I owe around £400 more than I thought :sad:
I know it's a joint account and joint debt and my OH may not even notice but that's the right thing to do so I've explained it to him where I had gone wrong and amended my signature
Now I need some advice please.
Barclaycard sent me cheque to be used for BT at 0% rate until June. They come with a one off 2.5% charge and after June, the interest rate will be 12.5%. I don't owe anything to B/Card now and I am thinking of using the cheque to pay off my share of the joint OD (£1,431.15). I thought that even if I don't pay it off by June, the 12.9% rate is better than the 15.6% that I am charged at the moment. Would you agree or have I got it all wrong (wouldn't be the first time!)
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.Leason learnt :beer:0 -
Hi Moozie! Good to see you back.
I'd agree that doing the BT is a good idea, assuming you are unable to get a better deal elsewhere?
You're doing good, girl!:cool: DFW Nerd Club member 023...DFD 9.2.2007 :cool::heartpuls married 21 6 08 :A Angel babies' birth dates 3.10.08 * 4.3.11 * 11.11.11 * 17.3.12 * 2.7.12 :heart2: My live baby's birth date 22 7 09 :heart2: I'm due another baby at the end of July 2014! :j
