I love charity shop rummaging, jumbles and car boots. I've been doing them for years and I've had some fantastic bargains. But round here in N.E. Surrey I have found over the past year, that charity shops are getting so expensive it's hardly worth going in for 'label' clothes. I've seen a coat priced at £80! Ridiculous, they'll price themselves out of the market! Has anyone else found this? I still pick up art books and the odd thing or two, but prefer car boots. Last week we bought an almost new Hulsta petrol hedge trimmer for £40, and a Paul Dunn signed print for £15, have also recently stocked up on entire camping equipment so that's this year's holiday sorted! We have bought nice tent, top quality sleeping bags, good blow-up mattress, kitchen stand thingy, fold-up table and benches, screwy-in thingys to fix dog chain to so he can run around a bit, got bargain cooker and gaz in the market. They have all been tested in the gaden and all OK. All we need now is little kettle, big torch and that's about it!

Hi Taffyscot,we are in East Ayrshire. We have gone to the ayr racecourse boot sale in the past,I love that one,its massive. We sometimes come across a local one,one off charity or fundraising ones, by accident when we are out at the weekend too but there dont seem to have been any for ages.We are withing easy travelling to Glasgow and would even go as far as loch lomond/trossachs area for a good car boot sale so I think I will search for some outside of the area.
There used to be car boots on at the Rugby Club in Kilmarnock but have not seen any advertising for that one this year.I sold stuff at that a few years ago and did okay but it was a small boot sale and not very busy, more traders than customers.
Oh theres also one in Troon which is a regular indoor one but I have never been.

  • thanks lynzpower the denham one sounds much better then wimbledon, will be going there this weekend instead. Like you I'll be going by public transport, just hope its not too tricky to find!
  • Ascot bootsales (Sundays) and the monthly farmers market can also be done by public transport - they are based in the racecourse carparks, and about 10 minutes walk max from the station. Not as big as Denham but still plenty of boots, and a nice atmosphere.

Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.

  • Just what is it about me and canadian stuff lately. The nicest things I have found all turn out to be canadian.
Does anyone here have a membership of artnet or askart.I bought a painting today in a junk shop and to be honest I thought I had had a bad day shopping today and bought a load of tat,BUT,I looked up the artist and I think this may be worth something. All the info I can find on previous sales for this guys work are marked subscriber only so I have to pay money to find out more and I am far too mean to do that.
So the artist is Jean Philippe Dallaire and its a watercolour, still life of purple and red anenomies in a pewter vase and a gold bowl sitting next to it.Its really big for a watercolour,A3 size.I bought it because I like the flowers but if its worth anything I will sell it to add to my wedding fund.
Anyone know anything about this painting or have access to those subscriber only art sites and can find some info for me?
