Made it to the local one today, after a gap of a few months - loads of sellers there (quite a lot seemed to be selling tables filled with stuff marked at 25p per item!) but only saw one thing that I'd even consider buying - an oil lamp, stuffed in a box under the seller's table. I could see it was missing part of the middle section, so I decided to give it a miss, only mentioning it to hubby when we met up about an hour later, as oil lamps are something he's fond of and knows a lot about. Of course, he couldn't resist having a look so I took him across.
As we aproached the stall, the seller was just leaving for a wander himself, and left a friend to run the stall for him while he was away. OH muttered that the glass globe on the lamp was extremely rare and hard to find - and we sort of expected to pay £10-15 for the lamp and bits in the box, and to be told it was on sale at £20 or so. A bit of a shock, therefore, when we asked how much we got the reply 'Oh, a couple of quid, say?'. Never have I paid for anything so quickly in all my born days! When we got it home, some of the other bits in the box are worth a fiver on their own, and are things we need - and the globe for this lamp is absolutely lovely. It would fetch about £35 on ebay, but we won't be selling it, as it is a match for another lamp we already have. If we can make a complete lamp out of odd spare parts, great -if not, then it's good to have a spare globe! It's the sort of thing that if you walk away from, you kick yourself for later, so that was just the one piece of luck we needed to turn a potential waste of time into a great morning!Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0 -
