Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Sat. 7h March This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.
Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
Been to bed, cannot sleep even though I was falling asleep reading, made myself a cuppa, decided to surf for a couple of things and then go back to bed and try again.
I was looking for a particular type of clothes peg, they are called cyclone pegs......found some on e bay......but the postage doubles the cost. Will have to have a look and see if they have them locally. Wilkinsons doesn't I looked when we were in yesterday. Will have to try Tesco.
Will be back later

Morning csarina and all my OS friends,
Had a couple of lovely sunny days here, hoping today will be the same and I can get outside for a while.
Tru - as I used to tell clients - you cannot change others behaviours, you can only change how you react to them. You are also taking the power from them to yourself by staying calm and not exploding. Like everyone else has said, do what you want to do and not what they expect you do.
silvercharming - Good luck with the interview hon
nic1lou2, kal25 and Purpleclutterbuck -to the board, it's great to have you all with us.
Sybil - Well done on going out, that was great!
Loopylinz and moggins - hugs for you both
Reverbe - Ok, I will probably be shot down for this but I find it very very hard to believe that someone who is supposed to be your partner cannot find 5 mins to write or call you no matter how stressed or busy or shy etc they are. You just seem so nice and I think you must have the patience of a saint. Sorry if I offended you but like others have said it's hard seeing you so unhappy. Sometimes the person we love isn't the person we get to spend the rest of our lives with.
PippaS - what wonderful news! Congratulations!
Re Tristan: He was going to be sent home yesterday but because he isn't controlling his pain relief very well they were thinking of keeping him in.. Am hoping he might log in today.
Onto happier news - some of you will remember that last year a friend of mine gave me some tadpoles from her pond and I 'grew' them in a tank til they were baby frogs and then released them into 'frog city' (A large round shallow planter filled with water, set into the ground with a couple of stones and a short plank in there so they could get out). Anyway, my OH went to check for me yesterday and right in the centre is a blob of frogspawn! That means one of the babies I released last year have come home to mama!! I am going to bring some inside again to watch them grow so have decided to keep a blog this year of their progress. That way I won't have to bore you guys with it too much!:rotfl:
Had another hospital appointment yesterday. Half my test results weren't back so will have to wait for yet another appt. *sighs*. It was a long way to go to be told to come back another time.
OS wise - going to do cabbage gallette later. Trying it with frozen cabbage as we bought it on special offer, so hope it works Ok. Might serve it with baked beans but not sure yet. Washed the net curtain from my bedroom window but the black mould from the bottom didn't come off so going to try a weak bleach solution I think.
My OH was given a microwave by a friend who was moving house. I hate the things so we are keeping it in the Utility room downstairs and will only use it if we have a real reason to. I know what I am like, if it was in the kitchen full time I would start buying rubbish that was microwavable instead of cooking from scratch. Rustlers burger anyone?
Anyway, another typical long one from me so better stop.
Warm gentle hugsto everyone
Diva.xTo be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.0 -
Morning Diva and Csarina
Csarina, congrats on your news about the house. I hope that you are happy in this one - I remember the excitement when you moved into your flat. The house does sound more suitable though with your own garden, your own front door and so on.
Diva - yeah, hospitals....the lack of communication is appalling. A phone call to you would have made all the difference, then a phone call to someone else giving them your slot would have made all the difference to that person. At least we have the NHS, imagine if we didn't.
Isn't today the day that N9eav is going to scare the fish off the coast of Cornwall by dangling his tackle over the side of a boat? He's probably at the top of 30 foot wave as I type. Rather him than me. If I want fish I'll go to Iceland.
I made a bit pot of mince last night and it's gorgeous. Yum! I'll freeze some today though as there's enough to feed an army and I'll get very fed up with it over the weekend.
Today I am going to stay in as I did a Tesco shop yesterday. I sinned badly and used a heap of Tesco money off vouchers at face value. TBH I don't ever do any of the things that you can trade them for, and I'd only end up losing them anyway. I got a fiver off my shopping so that was alright. I know some of you will be recoiling in horror as £5 of Tesco vouchers can be traded for £10 of entry fees or something.
Poor Dylan and I have fallen out. That's because I clipped his claws yesterday. I managed three out of four paws - he's avoiding me like the plague as he knows he's going to get that fourth one done one way or another. Teddy has been done. Mitzi thinks she has escaped, but she hasn't - I'll sneak up on her when she's least expecting it.
Bye for now, have a good day.

Morning,
why is it even on the days when I don't need to get up, I wake early?? Although it is lovely & peaceful while everyone else is asleepIn bed with a cuppa & the laptop, might try for another doze in a little while...
Today is a faffy day (as Saturdays often are), bits of shopping to get, youngest DD to take to gym induction at lunchtime, baking to do, hoovering & also mopping kitchen floor, etc... Lunch will probably be french bread & ham, may do meatballs for supper as we haven't had them for a while. Got a £2 chicken to get out the freezer later to cook tomorrow as well.
Sunnyday, thank you for the link to the blackberry oat bars - guess what I'll be [STRIKE]eating[/STRIKE] making today!!
PippaS - congratulations to you & your family, what lovely good news!!!
MSD it has been beautiful the last few days, very spring-like (generally), means I can put my airer outside as I lurve the smell of outdoor-dried washing... Fingers crossed Tristan is home again soon. Let us know the link for FrogBlog...
Reverbe ((((hugs))))) honey; only you know what situation you want to be in or can manage, but I think you're worth more than that.
WSybil, well done on the outing
Tru, as MSD says, you can only change your own behaviour, not that of others (as I have learned with my DD's), and in the end putting yourself first is what works!
Good luck from too Silvercharming(was going to say something else to you as well, but forgotten temporarily....!!)
SnowyOwl, I'm a bigger sinner than you at the moment - I have tesco vouchers from this Xmas & last Xmas. However they're in a very very safe place somewhere....(I'm just not sure where it is....:o ) Lol, at you & the cats staking each other out....
(((((((hugs))))))) for all those having tough times or feeling poorlysick. Have a good day all.Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
Morning,
It's great to see how you are all so friendly on here giving each other support when its needed.:T
Really getting into this OS now, was up at 5 this morning baking some more hobnobs to take to drop in centre.
Looking like a lovely day here so everybody will be happier today, the bad weather can really get some people down.
Dont know what its going to be for tea, maybe just a jacket potato with an easy filling. I bought a 5lb bag of baking pots from Asda for £1
Hope the sun shines for you all today

Morning :hello:Tru's doing a Tru - yay!
We went to Morrison's yesterday and went way over budget, I just trailed around like this :silenced: while he threw things in the trolley. The only thing I spent more on than I HAD to was a chicken - 2 for £6, or a free range one for £8.04. I bought the free range one but I must admit, there was a war going on in my head - MSE tru v. principles/morals tru
I made 3 cuppas all day, he made the rest. He cooked lunch. Master tru wanted me to sew a button on a shirt, I said yes but only if he washes up. We spent a couple of hours in the garden, that's sorted now so I just need to get the seedlings going. Then I watched Sarah Connor (oooooh I want be her, lol) and Ultimate Force.
I told mr tru that I can't cook anything, he looked surprised and asked why, I told him there's nowhere to put it once it's cooked cos there's no room in the freezer, he said 'oh'. Not sure what he was thinking when I said that - or if he was even thinking at all :rotfl:
No set plans for me today, if I come across things to do then I'll do them - but only if I feel like it at the timeBulletproof0 -
Morning peeps
very mild today, i was surprised after yesterdays hard frost. I sneaked down the garden and hung the washing out in the dark so fingers crossed for a lovely day. Hopefully later i shall be able to finish weeding a cut out bed in the front lawn in preparation for planting beetroot and golden chard. This will be the first time that i`ve attempted to grow these but as it`s the front garden i`ve tried to choose something colourful.
Hm marmalade on toast for breakfast and hm lentil, bacon and red pepper soup for dinner then tuna and pasta bake for tea later tonight so nice and easy, i really need to get my menu plan finished as Mr Sunny is off to the shops later.
Smoky - I`ve just re-read your post from last night, thankyou for another smile
Must go and get some w*rk done  I shall catch up later.
Have a good day everyone.
SDPlanning on starting the GC again soon0 -
Good morning moneysavers......I have not been brave enough to look out the kitchen window this morning.................bored out of my mind yesterday I took the bus to ASDA.....wandered around........picked up meds. That was it.
Not sure what is on my agenda today......Today, my BEST is good enough.0 -
Good morning all
Not posted for a while, but as I'm up before DS and DH I thought I'd steal half an hour on MSE. Am desperately trying to get back into my Oldstyle ways as I've just found out I'm pregnant again :j and so need to save some money so I can have maternity leave. I'm soooo pleased, but worried about how I'll manage as DS will only be 22 months when the new baby arrives. I'm also really worried about money, so need to start being a lot more frugal.
Plans for today involve doing some baking, hobnobs and scones I think. Cooking up some kind of mince based dish that can be frozen into portions. I think I'm also going to do an inventory of the freezers and do some meal plans for this month.
Hope everyone is well. Feel free to take a ((hug)) as needed.

good morning
havent been around for a few days and I'm afraid I havent been able to keep up with the thread, so (((hugs))) to all that need
Been having a really tough time the last few days, DH has had an operation on his throat and although he is now at home, despite all the medication they have given him, we cannot get the pain under control, I am almost beside myself seeing him in agony. I have spoken to the hospital (a very nice chargenurse who was very helpful) and I have been to see his GP who has given him something stronger , but it is still not touching him. we are both exhausted. they have said it is one of the most painful operations and will improve after 2 weeks - its only been 4 days
he is actually asleep at the mo ( we have been up all night) so I thought I would come on here to all my friends for a few minutes.
not much OS being done, just not had time
me and the kids have had 2 takeaways in 2 daysDH not eating of course
I need to clean the fridge out as something has definitely gone off! but I cant spot what it is , so the whole lot will have to come out
I hope everyone has a good day.0 -
Morning all.......(((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS))))))))))))))))) if you need one, especially sistercas and husband, what a nasty place to be in....I hope things get better for you both soon. I know what it is to watch a loved one suffer with something that you can do nothing about.
I went back to bed around 4am, woke at 7am but have managed to stay in bed till now...............we are having a cooked brekkie ths morning. We had haggis for supper the other night and there is some left so I am doing grilled bacon and tomato's fried bread and will 'cook' the haggis in the microwave....
Thanks for the good wishes Snowy........we were between a rock and a hard place when we moved in here, in hindsight we maybe should have gone into the private sector 2 years ago when OH's son made it obvious he wanted us out of the house.........but having said that it made us downsize so much stuff that we did not need and also has allowed us to make in roads in our debts, even though they will have gone back up by about £2000 by the time we move, once the HB is sorted they will be paid off........
I really did think when we came in here that it was going to be alright, but time has shown that not to be the case, the sewing situation with OH being ill and the size of the kitchen being the two really major factor, plus not being able to spend time outside in the garden when the weather was fine did not help.
Now, as OH says we are stepping out again......the lady we are renting the house from through the agents is looking for regular income, long term tenants......she did not want an 'here today gone tomorrow' which suits us fine.....we get a nice home and she gets good tenants.
No real plans for today, I have put the pioneer quilt away, if I get to my friend next week I might cut the borders there, otherwise it will have to wait until I have my sewing room straight............I expect OH will want to go for a walk at somepoint, it feels a bit chilly right now but there are signs of it being a reasonable day. Tomorrow we have to go to the allotment and continue getting it sorted ready for planting, if there is not a frost warning for tomorrow night I will move the tay berry.
Right no sign of OH yet...........saving my second mug of coffee to take with my brekkie...............see y'all later, have a good day as the Americans would say.....................Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0
