OP's above from London can you pm me with details of any cleaners recommended, that work south, croydon. I have been quoted £12-15 would love to pay £7-8.

Can they sue you if they have an accident in your home?

I checked with my household insurance and it includes (as standard) any accidents in the home from cleaners etc.
I found my cleaner by putting an ad in the local newsagent window. He (yes he!) worked for me for several weeks before I gave him a key (and to be honest, i don't leave diamonds or £50 notes around the place anyway). He has been with us for nearly 3 years now and he has never not turned up. What I am trying to say is that agencies are not the only way to ensure honest trustworthy cleaners.0 -

Thanks for replies and suggestions - I like the idea of doing it directly to save a bit of money but am wary regarding the security aspect.
The one company I have contacted said flat fee of £11 per hour which now seems expensive compared to what you have said!
Personal recommendtion is best but don't know anyone in Blackpool with a cleaner0 -
I'm in St Annes and pay £11 an hour.0

I'm in Devon, my friend charges 7.50 an hour direct.0

In Herefordshire its £12 - £13 through an agency or about £7.50 direct. Trouble is there are NO cleaners to be found out here! Searched for absolutely ages to get one direct, tried word of mouth (via school gate etc), card in newsagents etc - nothing! When I have had them direct in the past they have been very unreliable.
I therefore go via the agency but if that cleaner left the agency I would be without as they have no spare capacity and can't recruit reliable people either despite advertising. My cleaner is a gem and worth the money to me but it's her or nothing.MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0
