  • Has anyone used the friends and family discount abroad?

I can get a good rate on the hotel I'm looking at in new York but I'm a bit worried.

Did you get quizzed about who it was from? What hotel they worked in etc???

    Thanks x

Does anyone have any knowledge of the InterContinental Ambassador programme? The web site 'sells' the membership for $150 US each year which gives you one free night and free upgrades.

I'm looking at booking the Intercontinental in Sydney for 30th Jan to 3rd Feb and trying to work out if the Friends and Family link on page one is better than joining the above programme, so was wondering if anyone was a member?

Maybe I could do 2 nights of each programme?
    Cheers
It depends how often you will stay at InterContinentals to get the benefit. The free night is the 2nd night of a paid rate and officially friends and family rate do not attract the Ambassador perks - have a look at this forum http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/intercontinental-hotels-priority-club-inter-continental-ambassador-426/ and you can see info on the particular hotel. I had a quick search for Sydney and found "Both Ambassadors and Royal Ambassadors only receive upgrades when earning points, not redeeming points or using a free night voucher." someone has asked the questionre friends and family upgrade but no answer yet
  • Hi there

I used the vouchers for F&F all over Asia in the summer - lots of hotels didn't even ask for the voucher. (Best to have it with you incase though). Have made a couple of bookings for UK too with no problems.

Never got quizzed about anything. Just checked in as normal.

Hope this helps - I would say if you get a good deal go for it!

    Happy travels!

Used it for the Holiday Inn, 6th Avenue in New York back in April with no problem.
They didn't even ask for the voucher, but I would take it just in case.
Go and enjoy yourself, New York as great:beer:
  • Thanks a lot, maybe il be brave and go for it then, looking at the crown plaza which I'd about $200 dollars a night for a standard room, none if those are available for f and f, just the concierge tower for around $ 180! bargin :) x

Can you let us in on them?

  • I am looking at staying in Darwin 11th April for 3 nights, then in Cairns 14th April for 4 nights. Whilst I can get the friends and family rate to work, I thought the 2 for 1 may be a better offer but none of the hotels work, infact I can't get any in Oz or Nz to work around March/April for the 2 for 1 offer.

    Am I doing something wrong?

    Hi Rachel

It seems that the 2 for 1 is only avialbale in europe....i found this is the first post:-

'Apart from Friends and Family, which will work worldwide, the rest of these rates will only work in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. If you're travelling further afield and Friends and Family isn't coming up trumps, '

Ive had a good deal with the F&F at the Intercontinental in Sydney, so hopefully Darwin and Cairns will give you similar (I've even splashed out on club lounge access!)

    Happy travelling
