It's a good tip though.
When I'm at Uni, I just constantly eat and eat and eat, mainly junk. You go to the supermarket, buy a few snacks that you feel will satisfy you for a few days and they're gone by the second. Can I afford to buy? Mortgage Affordability Calculator

I did and it resulted in 7 changes of address being on my credit record - which is casuing problems now - this may not look so good for you either when you graduate and want a loan/credit card/morgage. Just send all you statements home and instead make use of online banking to check how your fund are doing. Also make sure you stay on the electoral roll at home.
That's a really good pointI didn't change my address when I went to uni, it just goes home and my mum occasionally sends them on!

VVVV good point - I got a CIFAS (fraud warning) on my credit report because of this as I was registered at an address and was kept on the electoral role for a couple of extra years by mistake. Applied for a laptop on 0% credit and was refused and got the fraud warning on my account. They wouldn't remove it even with a letter from a barrister stating I wasn't living there at the time. Anyway I bought the laptop a week later in cash (probably a safer move).0 -

I found it hard to get off the electorol roll at one address because the forms have to be returned early in october (i think) and they send one with all the previous years tenants on, but in having only been in the property about 2-3 weeks you may not want to cross anyone off the list just in case they do live there but you haven't met them yet (this is what happened at our place as it was a house of 8 self enclosed bedsits there were about 20 people on the list because they never got crossed off - the new residents just added their details):kisses2: Got married September 2011:smileyhea

mine was a 4 bed student house, but the new tennants for 2 years didn't remove my name and no matter how helpful and aproachable equifax seem they never listen to the perosn who's credit file it is they always believe whoever registered the details on your account.0

No applicable to me, but that is still a worthy tip to know. :beer:0 -
Not wanting to sound too obvious but get a job!! lol
I'm in my first year so I dont have that much pressure. Yet...
Preferably in the SU or on campus because they understand the need to be flexible around exams and/or big deadlines, and you dont have to negotiate for holidays!! I work in the SU food court all the lunchtimes I have free (I can study around this) and in the aftenoons if I can. The major bonus for me is I can get some leftovers, mostly stuff like Jacket Potatoes or Pastys. My advice is just ask if you can have it. It only gets thrown away at the end of the day. The first time I asked I got some odd looks but now anything thats left they just bag it up for me!! I have barely cooked for a few weeks now!
A friend works in the campus shop and has only spent about £30 on food since september, and has a freezer full of stuff that cant be sold (but is still perfectly fine to eat).0 -
ha i know the whole febreze thing was like 3 years ago, BUT i just had to add - i used to do the same thing sometimes when i was at uni many moons ago, usually on jeans and sweaters i might add. however now whenever i smell febreze i immediately feel sick because it reminds me of those morning lectures after a big night, with a stinking hangover, and the wafting smell of febreze rising from my jeans. ew!0

Make your lunch - I'm used to making sandwiches/pastas for my lunch in the mornings as I used to do it when I went to work so have stayed in practise. It can save at least £5 a day which may not sound a lot but as a student I've found the costs pile up.
That doesn't however mean you can't spontaneously go for lunch with friends somewhere - you can have your made lunch another day - and have the money to have spontaneous lunch dates0 -
If you're interested in saving money (and your LIVER) simply drink less alcohol. If students did that they'd have more money for those increasing fees they keep moaning about....
Learn to talk to people and develop social skills so you don't need to be on your way to drunk when you go out..... oh yeah, and don't urinate or vomit in the street - a few students round my uni have have been done for that. £30-£50 fine I believe... And then there are those who were done for being drunk and disorderly...
Think! Please note: I am NOT Martin Lewis, just somebody else called Martyn that likes money saving!0
