If it was me I'd sell the used camera on Ebay, hoping to make a tidy profit, particularly with a £200 margin. I wouldn't then have to worry about not having a warranty / guarantee for the camera. I'd then go back to the shop and buy the camera I wanted to buy originally (and hope they make the same mistake again).

If you don't want to do that .... well you could easily say that you have given the camera away as a gift and are unable to get it back.

Why lie and be dishonest when there's no need?

Should we all try to profit from others mistakes?

having worked in stock control in phones4u where staff giving out the wrong handset happened fairly regularly, there isnt anything they can do, the phone call was probably just to satisfy managers procedure and if you dont bother taking it back they will probably forget the whole thing - its their own fault for admitting its a better camera, i would never have done that, if they wanted you to take it back they should have said it was from a faulty batch or something lol!

I would personally do the ethical thing and return the item and get the one you actually paid for. This is the one that you were more than happy to get originally, so what has changed??

Instead of ripping off the retailer (it is ripping them off as you are now well aware of the error and instead of working a way to rectify the mistake, everyine is advising loopholes to get out of it) speak to them to ask if there is a way to get it collected from you.

I'm sure this site is about 'consumer revenge' ,

Getting back these big companys that rip people off and will only do stuff in there favour , for example (not ringing you if you got a lower spec camera)

Not to mention , he is probally within his rights to keep it as they already sold it to him :D

Whats changed is that now I have used a higer spec camera I am used to it, I would be now disspointed if I got the lower sepc one, had I not used the higher spec one I would be been happy with it.

Which camera does it refer to on the receipt ? If its the one you actually got you "might" have a case if its the one you thought you had bought, you don't, and they would be within their rights to sue, in the same way you would be if you had received a lower spec one and they refused to change it.

    Because that's life.

Why should the camera shop be ripped off by a free-loader?

If you're going to throw emotionally charged terms like "ripped off" around, I think you should read the post again. It's clear that if anybody was "ripped off" here, it was the shop that ripped themselves off.

Those that are suggesting the OP returns the camera, not an idea that i will argue, would the OP be entitled to invoice Curry.s for his time/travel expenses etc???

I doubt they will invoice him for any expenses or inconveniences

But , i think he should keep it as they already sold it to him , and i'm not sure but i think he has a legal leg to stand on

However , best to check t out with local trading standards :p , I know that if they sold you something for under price and you have left the store , that you don't have to give it back. So in theory , as its a similar situation he should be able to keep it :rotfl:
