I cannot understand why everyone bemoans the general acceptance of Amex.
I went out shopping last weekend with my high maintenace lady and spent about £400. Out of nine places where I made purchases, which included both retail chains and independent boutiques only one, a bistro, did not accept my Amex card. There I only spent £15 out of the £400!
I admit Amex is not accepted everywhere, but I find it hard to believe that people cannot generally achieve higher cashback tiers when making purchases with Amex unless they are making specific expensive purchases AND their grocery shopping at independent outlets all the time.0 -

Hi - slight deviation but don't know where else to ask this - Are Amazon still doing their £15 voucher when you first use their credit card - thanks a lot in advance TB4560

I have switched various credit cards as they have decreased their money back offer, More Than, Accucard etc . I still have an amex card but got fed up of having to carry another card just in case it was not accepted. I found some large stores like Woolies would not accept it! I asked one retailer why he did not accept amex but took other cards; he explained that they charge them too much, so that's why very few smaller retailers accept it.
I am currently using the CITI card that I see is no longer giving cash back. The only problem I have with them is that they keep phoning me to offer card protection, which is a waste of time unless you have a large outstanding balance each month. In which case there are cards with much lower interest rates!
What I would like to know is:
Has anyone used the CITI card with cash back for over a year? I am just about to get my reward in April, but fear they will stop, or reduce it after that date.
Secondly has anyone ever used the extended warranty? Obviously not having the card for over a year yet I have not had cause to use it.0 -
I've just activated my Egg Money card that arrived this morning.
When I checked that everything was right with the account, I noticed that Egg had set the account up to just pay off the minimum balance each month, even though I had asked specifically on the DD application that I wanted the entire balance paying off in full.
Just a warning for everyone who has applied and wants to pay off in full to check their payment settings when they log in.
I think it's a bit nasty for Egg to do this. Just be careful!Filiss0 -

Me too. The only significant places that don't take Amex are John Lewis, Boots, and the council. Pretty much everywhere else seems to take it.0 -

I'm pretty sure Boots now takes Amex. Re the council, it will probably depend on which council."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

1. Because Amex is not accepted everywhere I find that now the spend has increased its difficult to get to the 2% area so a card paying 1% for all spend actually pays more and you need a backup visa card anyway
2. What has happened to the Citi card. mine pays me 1% on all spend, was it just a limited offer or has Martin just overlooked it?"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0 -

Depends in both cases, I'd say. M & S used to take Amex only in their City branches but now they do so everywhere.0 -
