Apologies if this has already been discussed, but I can't spot it!

I'm a relatively new recipient of Martin's email, and decided to sign up for an Amex Platinum for the 3% cashback (I've been using the Morgan Stanley Platinum up until now).

One thing that struck me is that my boss has an Amex Platinum card and I spotted an annual subscription fee of £275 on his statement. Does anyone know if this applies to the new 3% cashback card?

I received the PIN yesterday, and am waiting on the card, but don't want the card if it's going to cost me £275 a year!

My guess is that he has the Platinum CHARGE card and you have the platinum CREDIT card (suggest you check as a matter of urgency).

I used to have AMEX but there were lots of places I couldn't use it so closed it down eventually.
Also smaller retailers used to ask me not to use it due to high charges and it was a little embarassing.
Eventually not the worth the effort.

I think you are right about the charge/credit card. I've checked the Amex website and there doesn't seem to be a fee for their credit card from what I can see, but there is a fee for the charge card so that would explain it. Thanks!

I tend to do quite a lot of my card spending at major chains so will use Amex for that as much as I can, and keep my Morgan Stanley as back-up....

I recently tried applying for the GE Everyday card (and got accepted :-))... I do a lot of online grocery shopping (Tesco) and wanted to check it works (i.e. I get 3% instead of 0.5%) for Tesco online. I assume it must do, because the card is presumably processed when the shopper picks your shopping in the local store, but has anyone checked this?

Also, does anyone have any experience with using it for the other Tesco online departments (books, wine, etc.)?

    Hi,
If you have the Platinum credit card rather than the charge card, there is no fee.

    hi

i know its not a creditcard cashback comment direct but

surely tesco clubcardplus at 3.3%( equivalent "cash back"via deals)beats the 3% on food&petrol card

Just a note to say that Amex have revised (lowered) their cashback percentages on credit cards. The new rates come into effect from 1 Oct 2006 (for existing cardholders, maybe earlier for new applications?). See the dedicted Amex thread for details.
  • So right now - which card offers the best cashback etc?

I'd like an answer to this one too, as I'm moving on from amex. Does anyone know what happens on the GE card after the first 5k please?
