If it is an old loo it may the bleach/harpic/thousands of scrubbings it has had has worn away the glaze and it is the porous porcelain that if exposed and stained and you need a new loo.

  • Oh I had this!!!!!! I got some limescale remover for toilets from the 99p shop (looks like a bleach bottle) and put it in...left it overnight and swished with the toilet brush and hey presto...sparkly clean!

  • Denture tablets (a handful at first) thrown down there just before bed/ before you go out will help dissolve limescale but if pigpen's right and the glaze has gone.....

Either way you'll get a nice, shiny loo! :rotfl:

There's a new product I think it's harpic not toilet duck that promises to make white toilets white again. See it in waitrose and our local b and m in chesterfield.

In an old house we lived in we used Spirits of Salts (Hydrcloric acid) It is available from hardware stores. You MUST use rubber gloves and open the windows wide. Get rid of the water and pour it in. DO NOT lean over it. Sounds awful but it works instantly!

I would also make sure no other chemicals are added, DON,T mix any kind of Acid & Hypochlorite Bleach together (CHLORINE GAS CAN BE PRODUCED) , not forgetting put sign on toilet to stop any accidents.:naughty:

Nothing worse than the dreaded SPLASHBACK:eek:

The only thing I've found to work is the super strong toilet cleaner, Harpic Power Plus, I think? Doesn't even need a scrub just soaking for 30 mins or so is enough to get rid. I buy it when it's on offer ;)
