Thanks Vali for the microwave tips, very useful. How hot do meals on wheels come? Nan is starting them on Monday.

Birthday cake in the AGA, DS1 wanted to help make it. All cake making stuff washed up just need to make sure I don't burn it!
They do come warm, usually at lunch time ish and you can eat them straight away, but if they come early/you eat lunch late you would need to warm them up. Also, they can provide meals for th weekend, which they put in your freezer on Friday lunchtime, and you have to defrost them and heat them when you want to eat them. Make sure your Nan knows she can choose what she wants, they should provide her with a menu.HTH

I've just had my pay rise and bonus letter, but won't get my pay slip until the 15th. Does anyone know how I work out how much money I'll actually get?! I need to work out what I'm going to do with it... :D

I didn't get an interview for the job I applied for, but I have had a lovely email from the director who was advertising saying that although I hadn't asked for feedback, he thought he'd get in touch to say don't be discouraged, and that someone he'd met at an external event a while ago had asked him if he knew me because of what a fantastic job I'm doing :D , and that he's sure there will be opportunities for collaboration... must have been that video  or the presentation before it  So finally I'm seeing the benefits of shamelessly plugging someone else's part of the business :p So I am slowly concocting a response about how fab the business is, that I'd love to collaborate more... I'm already working on their acquisition programme... and if I have to do another presentation it would be great to know who to talk to so I know I'm saying the right stuff rather than winging it!

LL - keep forgetting to say. Huge hugs. You know what the problem was now, and I'm sure you will be well looked after.

Take your annual salary. Subtract your tax code (ie if 345L multiply digits by 10 add £5 then subtract from Annual Salary) (and ring tax office cos your tax code is wrong LOL) divide this by 12. This is your GROSS taxable pay. Take off 20% Tax (if your earnings are less than £34600 pa)
Subtract NI, pension, sharesave, student loan etc
    (I'll be back)
tax codes are HERE (so should be £6475) ie 647L
NI here (it used to be so much easier when they printed contributions tables!)

now cry cos it's not as much as you thought it would be!

The sound of the doors opening in Star Wars is made by sliding a piece of paper in and out of an envelope! How bizarre!

That is beyond comprehension that someone thought that up.

But, on reflection, possibly comprehensible if you consider the following hypothetical situation:

Three film sound people are sitting in the studio watching the 'rushes'. They need to put sound to them.

One says: 'oh, we need some sound when they open that spaceship's door. What should we use?'

Another says 'dunno - they did the shhhht shhhht thing in Star Trek so it has to be different to that'

The third is sitting there quietly fretting about the letter from the credit card company he picked up off the doormat as he left home to go to work. He's already lifted the flap but hasn't yet dared to take out the letter.

As the other two are pondering about shhhht shhhht and Star Trek, he gets brave and takes the letter out of the envelope with one eye closed just to have a peak at what it says.

As he does, his colleague closest to him say "That's it! Do it again!" and the Star Wars doors opening sound is born. The third guy with the credit card company letter that he can't face to read is suddenly quids in and ends up being able to buy the credit card company!

Oooops sorry - off on a really non-OS tangent there. But it helped declutter the imagination. And it is the weekend - at least it is in my diary...

    Thanks Rose

Do you know how different they are from say buying an M&S ready meal? Is the quality the same? Is the cost comparable? I know somebody is delivering them and there is the social contact involved so thinking mainly for the weekend ones.

Are you feeling any better this evening?

Greenbee, if you gave me your pay details to date and your tax code, I could do the sums for you (or at least I could use the disc that the nice people at HMRC have sent me to calculate my payroll figures).

But, generally, think about taking off 40% of the gross mentioned and you can be certain that what's left will be less than you will receive.
