I've just recieved via courier a huge parcel of baby clothes and a booster seat from a lovely freecycler, who insisted I only send her £3 for postage.

They're not all money grabbing baddies! lol

Re - the selling on of goods, there is a lady who has picked up lots of things from us, she carboots at weekends and has always been open about this.

She takes some of what we give for herself, but I have no problem with her selling the rest on, if we don't want it and don't endeavour to sell it ourselves then what is the problem.

I personally do not mind this, as we have so had much trouble with people arranging to come, then not turning up, or being just plain rude. She is always very lovely, and often stops in for a drink.

She sometimes brings us things in return, i.e a bottle of wine, or once, a chest of drawers.

Thanks for your replys. I contacted freecycle and they say their is an appliction for my area being processed- if it falls through they will let me know. Scotsgirl2 I also stay about 25 miles outside glasgow but going towards the east. I live in Lanarkshire.I have joined the north lanarkshire & Glasgow freecycle because of this thread. I emailed one lady three days ago and she has not replied, I had just joined that day so was wondering if she got my email as she has not put on that the item has been taken.
I find the Glasgow thread far too busy and a bit more full of chancers. So I will be glad when a more local thread opens up. I put two different items for offer on the cumbernauld board and the glasgow borad and one guy emailed me from both- me thinks he just emails everything that gets put on !

yes its true, i got same email as yourself, from the freecycle organsiers and been told i may wait up to 28 days to know if i can set up a local group nearer to myself.i notice more and more wanted postings than offer ietms nowdays, i always thought that policy of these groups were to offer some things also before any wanted posts were allowed. it really spoils the whole idea of it when it just want want want all time, and its for expensive items aswell at times like ipods and the like....

It is self-governing though - Nobody is going to give away an ipod to soembody they don't know that has asked for it so the message and the person will just get ignored. Each Group sets its own rules about first post being an Offer etc.
    To infinity and beyond!

    Hiya

I know I have posted this before but in case of the newbies who do not know this brilliant group

Freecycle.org is a massive UK group where people post all their unwanted items and you send them an email and advise them that you are interested in their items. if you are uscessful you go round the where the item is take it away ALL FOR NOTHING!!!!

You do have to join the groups, and have a yahoo email address, but it takes 2 minutes to sign up and it is well worth it.

Groups are all over the uk,

So far I have picked up, massive amounts of clothes for my designer mad teenage daughter, an apple mac computer, gardening items, and my hubby got two really expensive rotring pens, they costs a fortune brand new.

Missed out on a camcorder yesterday, but sure there will be more.

This is brilliant for anyone wanting furniture, it is always being given away,

You can also donate the items you want to get rid of too,

Freecycle.org is to help reduce the landfill sites, less trips to the tips, so not only are you getting stuff for nowt you are helping the environment too

    address is http://freecycle.org

find your local group and join, and if you are like me join as many as you can in your area so you never miss any of the good items on offer

I now run the Retford and Worksop one

    Thanks everyone

Just to clarify, you need to have a Yahoo ID but you can register to have your freecycle e-mails sent to any e-mail address, not just Yahoo. Be warned, Blueyonder seems to have problems receiving the e-mails (I think) because the Yahoo Group servers are sometimes listed on spamcop.

Freecycle is fab!!! Remember that it works by people giving as well as taking.

I though that this formum needed a bit of a bump. FREECYCLE

The concept is simple. You have something you don't want and you give it away for free and save the landfill sites.

I joined my local site some months ago, plus others in Redditch and Rugby (to keep an eye out for relatives.

Both of those site are increasing in membership. My expereince of using freecycle has so been great.
