what type of hotel do you want?
adults only (not seedy ones BTW), small hotel, chic hotel, large hotel with lots of amenities etc, Mexican style or opulent etc is beach important, what about transfer time etc and restaurants (as in how many), do you want super all inclusive (which gives you mini bar, 24 hour room service etc)
have you looked at any hotels yet and if so, which ones take your fancy ?0 -
I went to Norway last yr and that's the most beautiful place I have been. The people were nice, the scenery was stunning, it was so peaceful. It's maybe not quite as good as some of the other suggestions but its the best holiday I've had yet. We camped and stayed in youth hostels as we're students so trying to keep it cheap, however it was still quite expensive. If you stay in nice hotels and maybe cruise round to some of the different places and go on trips down the fjords it will cost a lot more and you will see some beautiful sights. I would recommend the Sognefjord, across to Voss and on the Flam railway. Somewhere I really wanted to visit but couldn't unless we got an expensive cruise was Allesund.
I personally think Norway would be worth looking into.0 -
have a look at these hotels in mexico to see if any of these take your fancy:
el dorado royal
el dorado seaside suites
calentin imperial maya
azul beach (I like this hotel)
secrets silversands
ocean maya
occidental grand famenco
dreams in tulum - I have been here and it's fab
occidental royal hideaway - this looks fab too
once you have decided on your hotel really do shop around as prices can vary massively - check out kuoni, holidayplace, monarch, first choice, virgin etc as they all offer most of these places but the prices differ massively0 -

The one I posted was definitely not a seedy one. :rotfl: Sis just wanted to go somewhere kid free.

there are quite a few kid free ones (and not seedy ones ;-) ) and unfortunately for us, we like lots but we have kids so they are no go areas for us, I think the royal hideaway only takes kids over 130

My sis has 2 'kids', 13 and 16. It was her first holiday ever without the children, they stayed with their dad. So she just wanted a kid free hotel.

Thanks for the suggestions, I will start serious research tomorrow.
I looked on the virgin site and it appeared that the flights were from Heathrow to Miami and then changing planes and flying to Cancun. Now I really want a direct flight and preferably from Manchester. I will look into that tomorrow but does anyone have experience of direct flights from Manchester?0 -
both monarch and first choice have direct flights from Manchester0

have a look at this place, they have flights from Manchester and it's adults only, it looks fab and it rated 4th out of all the hotels in the Yucatan on tripadvisor
