I really like vista, it has taken a while but I think its much more slick than XP (which I'm forced to use at work
)
Things I don't like are (a) software incompatibility (b)having to buy a new printer as Lexmark didnt have Vista drivers

Is it going to be possible to buy it as an upgrade from XP? I would hope so, they would be crazy not to do this, as the potential upgrade market from XP must be vastly greater than that from Vista, as the installed base must be so much higher?
No, A new install is needed, XP uses a different Kernel to Vista and Windows 7.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
|Glad thats all stopped, or I hope it has. Linux- bought a mini-netbook with it on, had nothing but problems with it, and it wouldn't even connect up to a wireless network without being told to every time. Changed it for one with XP on, which is now running Windows 7 beta, and it is fast, much more reliable, and stable. I'm running Vista on my desktop, I have a choice of OSes as I'm a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, and I really find Vista to be a very stable environment, as if a program crashes, it only takes itself down, not the whole damn desktop.
Oh, and the point about Linux/Unix Viruses- as the hackers/gits have actually said, theres not enough running this to actually make it worth a bean writing code for. Its no more security concious, in fact the kernel is more wide open due to it being open source. But, if you enjoy it on your machine, run it, it makes not a jot of difference to me, TBH.:D0 -

How does open source make it more insecure??? I'd say it makes it more. It blatantly is more security concious down to the way its run and the way users use it.0 -
This lap topcame installed with Vista ,I cant say I noticed a difference .However a few months I found I had problems with IE ,windows wouldnt open ,and everything would freeze , this would last a few days then it would be ok for a week or two,then start all over again so I had XP installed,and on the whole it works a lot better.Was it a Vista problem? tbh I dont know nor care , I (like most people )just want my laptop to to work when surfing the net lol.0

Really? That its kernel is wide open to programming, which is the very idea of open-source? You seem to be one of those mad-eyed Linux converts, who does not actually recognise that there are a) other OSes out there, and b) not everyone wants or needs to mess about installing programs to work on their unit. Me? I'm too lazy to take on Linux (whatever distro), as I tend to consider theres not enough hours in the day to waste my time on things that have been "tinkered" with, at low level. Or go searching for a certain program, that if I did it with Windows, seems to do it with the minimum of fuss.How does open source make it more insecure??? I'd say it makes it more. It blatantly is more security concious down to the way its run and the way users use it.
So- you stay over there, in La-la Linux land, and I'll stick my head in the fiendish corporate mentality that is the Beelzebub of OSes, that most evil thing they call Windows. Oh, hail, great Baal of MicroSoft!
