I hated Vista when I first got it. But once id cleaned the cr*p off and changed a few bits its just like XP really (But crashes a LOT less)

In NO way am I saying follow what I did
But I did things like ~
Stop UAC from running (REALLY annoying)
    Stop defender from running
    Stop Auto defrag from running
    Remove sidebar
    Remove free Dell cr*p
    Lower the shadow restore limit

Lots of people dislike Vista, which is why Microsoft are dropping the Vista brand, in the hope that people won't notice Windows 7 is a fixed version of it.

I don't really like any Windows version, which I why I use a Mac. I installed Vista and tried using it exclusively for a month, but I much preferred Mac OS X.

Smooth I can believe. But cheap? How cheap are we talking? Why would Microsoft do this cheap? Presumably Vista has not produced anything like the expected revenue as so few people have upgraded voluntarily. Most of their income from it must have been on OEM licencing, which I guess is at a much lower margin? So won't they seek to maximise their revenue from Windows 7?

To be honest, theyve upset so many people with Vista I doubt theyd try and upset EVEN MORE by pricing it TOO high (But time will tell)

Is it going to be possible to buy it as an upgrade from XP? I would hope so, they would be crazy not to do this, as the potential upgrade market from XP must be vastly greater than that from Vista, as the installed base must be so much higher?

I believe they are trying to replace XP and Vista. XP is still around because of vista, vistas not scalable and didn't make the impact it should have. Win7 should be scalable and be everything vista was meant to be.

I've always viewed vista as the new ME.

It also looks like MS are ruining it already confirming that they are releasing 6 versions... 6???

No, XP is still around because it is a strong, stable and secure operating system, I hold XP as Microsoft's Flagship O/S.
Working with the XP O/S daily at work and at home I can back the system at a user and technical level. ;)
