You suppose that "manufactured" food is automatically healthier or safer? Why?
I am suprised that a supporter of even slight vegetarian concepts should be so aggressive in bad-mouthing clearly put opinions.

It's "affect" by the way, with an A.

Yes actually I do thank you for asking. For your information I am a Vegetarian and have been for the past 12 years... and 'me' bad-mouthing clearly put opinions? Have you read anything you have written? Hmmm there seems to be something a bit hypocritical in that statement!

Thank you for pointing out my typing error, at least I know you are paying attention. You might learn something.

What I dont understand is why you clearly have no interest in the products or special offers shared by the OP but bothered to enter the thread in the first place, I think someone summed it up before nicely when they said you are looking for attention.

On that note I will say goodbye as I have much more important things to be doing than wasting anymore time on the likes of people such as yourself.

Am a vegetarian and have tried quorn a total of 3 times, on the first occasion because I was in a rush and ate whatever was put in front of me and spent the next 6 hours being violently sick until there was nothing but bile left. Rechallenged myself twice since then (once by accident) at intervals exceeding 3 years and regretted it on both occasions - what goes down comes back up within 1/2 hr and doesn't stop until I pass out on the bathroom floor. I call it "S'notwen Law".

Sounds as if you have an allergy to quorn?
I used to vomit violently at odd intervals, for years! Finally found out I suddenly became allergic to pommegranates (sp) Ate them for years with no bad effect!

I think, if you consider what you wrote here, you've answered your own question: Quorn is expensive, a nonsense and potentially (and for one poster here, definitely) just as unhealthy as meat that's been badly prepared, stored or cooked.

You will SAVE MONEY and have a NICER and HEALTHIER meal if you eat a real vegetarian meal. Meat IS an expensive item, especially quality meat.

My opinion (and that of informed nutritionists) is that meat is a necessary part of the human diet. Again, on the money saving front i prefer to have a small amount of good quality meat rather than large amounts of cheap low-quality meat. This is still a money saving issue - purchasing artifical substitute meat is money wasted. You said yourself it's too expensive, so why bother?

    Clear now?

I'd like to see some studies to back up your claim that Quorn is unhealthy. If you can't provide any references, then you should stop trying to portray your opinion as fact.

Personally, I think that Quorn improves many meals and is a useful source of protein, so is a not money wasted at all. I have been a vegetarian for my whole life, and I'm showing no ill effects. I'm healthier and less frequently ill than almost all of my meat-eating friends.

My ex was quite violently ill after eating a red pepper though, should I assume that red peppers are just as bad as poorly prepared chicken?

It's fairly obvious that most manufactured foods are unhealthy. Ask anybody that works in a food factory whether they would actually eat what is produced there - I remember how working for Manor Bakeries put me off eating Mr Kipling cakes! :rotfl:
Thanks to all who post constructively.

Probably best not to ask but please bear in mind that it was about thirty years ago, and (hopefully) food safety is a lot better nowadays... ;)

Fairly easy really, since you ask (I am merely responding to this challange!).

"WASHINGTON -- A health advocacy group accused the government Monday of allowing fake meat made from fungus to be sold even though it makes people sick, and demanded that the product, known as Quorn, be recalled."

Actually, the Center for Science in the Public Interest cannot be accused of being one-sided: in 2007 they slated chickens and fruit as being often responsible for Salmonella and Norovirus respectively.

Just look - the evidence is there ... (sigh).

In the interests of fair assessment, I'd have to personally visit the bakery and sample the cakes to be sure they would put me off. Do you still know anyone there?

    ;)
