Iceland - Quorn Vegetarian food £1!!!

Options
Hi folks, not sure how long this offer is running but in the local Iceland today, have bought the following

- Vegetarian mincemeat
- vegetarian chicken style pieces

£1 each!

This is half price what Tesco sell them for, and beats any 3 for 2 offers that may be out there at the moment

I think the £1 will also apply to beef style pieces, but these were sold out

Enjoy!

I bought a load of the Quorn mince in tesco today. With that and the Asda £2 chickens, thats our meals taken care of for the next week or so.

  • In Asda it is the frozen Quorn products that are on special offer not the chilled Quorn, the chilled Quorn mince is still the full price.

Have you any idea what a linguistic, logical and moral oxymoron the concept of "vegetarian meat" actually is? A total nonsense. And in my opinion (having been fed it under false pretences once), not worth eating even if starving.

There are so many DELICIOUS vegetarian foods from around the world, so why not have the courage of your convictions and discard the concept of meat altogether?

Another thought: what's the carbon footprint of this manufactured "food" versus (say) beans or pulses?
Under no circumstances may any part of my postings be used, quoted, repeated, transferred or published by any third party in ANY medium outside of this website without express written permission. Thank you.
  • Anyone know the nearest Iceland to Didsbury?!

I don't eat meat, and used to have this opinion until I was introduced to Quorn mince.
I'm allergic to garlic which is a vegetarian nightmare. I'd say about 80% of veggie meals contain garlic so I make a lot of meals from scratch using basic ingredients like veg and pulses.
I was introduced to Quorn about a year ago by a meat eater who told me it was much more versatile that 'eal mince. As with actual minced meat, it is what you do with the product that makes a meal out of it, and if you can't cook then you can't put Quorn to it's best us.

A couple of interesting Quorny facts:
It's naturally low in fat, low in calories and rich in fibre.
It is a good source of protein.
There have been numerous trials run on Quorn and nearly all have shown a significant reduction in cholesterol levels after four to eight weeks.
Unlike meat, Quorn has no saturated fat which causes high cholesterol.
Quorn's high fibre content also helps lower cholesterol levels.

For many vegetarians getting a low fat, high protein source of food is difficult.
