OS Daily Thread - Friday 27th February

Options
Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 27th Feb. This is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly, but if not, it's not a problem.

Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Daily Threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good!
00020329.gifOS friends!

Halight and Smokey - Happy belated birthday, sorry I missed it yesterday.
Lesley - hope you are feeling better today
Ivy - I was rooting for Mat to win Masterchef too, the guy is so talented. I even cried a little when he won! What a lovely man he seems.
welcome2.gifTrazy hon
JackieO - hugs to you honey
Noahs - our cats nicname is fatcat, in fact I think she thinks her full name is Treacle Pudding Fat Cat. She is in my OHs bad books right now cos despite it being a lovely sunny day yesterday, she decided that she couldn't be bothered to walk out the cat flap and had a poo in the house!
Csarina - big hugs to you - inadequate I know but I am thinking of you.

To all of you who mentioned Tristan - thank you very much. I am honestly totally accepting of him fighting and railing til the end. He has never been peaceful around this cancer and never will be. When he goes, he will find peace then, I don't have any expectations about the here and now. His family want him to find peace but I wonder if that is about THEM wanting to feel better than Tris himself... Sorry, that might sound inappropriate but it's how I feel.

Sad about Wendy Richards - I loved her in 'Are You Being Served' when I was a kid.

I did lots of baking yesterday - made a huge coffee sponge cake with butter icing, ginger nut biccys and cheese and chilli straws. Displacement activities I know, but I do enjoy it! All the lock n locks are full again so the OH is happy. We got a load of washing out on the line too as it was such a nice day, am hoping to do the same today if the weather is the same. (too early to tell yet).

Friday is the quiet day here as the OH works two jobs and sleeps most of the afternoon. I have some phone calls to make for one of my survey companies so that should take an hour or so. The Tescos order arrived last night and they made a mistake with my pork joint so refunded the money and I get to keep the joint. Woo hooo, good result for sunday dinner!

Have loads of emails to deal with so that is next on my list - I have to admit I quite like being up this early, I can get all sorts done with no worries that the phone or doorbell might ring. Corned beef quiche for tea, nice and easy and tasty!

grouphug.gifand thoughts for everyone going through a bad time right now.

Hi MSD - I've not been on here a lot lately but just wanted to say I am so sorry about Tristan and hope he finds peace when the time is right. It's very sad for him, his family and you. (((Hugs))) to you all.

Well, I've been so busy with the Knit Your Square thread that I've spent most of my MSE time on there! We have loads of new knitters and the running totals of the things we make for charity are truly amazing. I'm thrilled with how well it is going and how kind and generous our lovely group of knitters and crocheters are! So far this year, Martin has made it Thread of Week in one of his emails, and gave it another mention in another! So onwards and upwards.

Belated Happy Birthdays to Smoky and Halight for yesterday! Sorry I missed them.

Well, I've not really caught up with everyone's news - I have a lot going on chez mioliere at the moment but will fill you all in with things shortly. DH's work has really tailed off so we are busy making other plans.

Dinner tonight will be sausages, probably with roast pots, veg and gravy - one of our faves.

I hope everyone is feeling well and that you all have a great day!

  • Morning all, up early as I have to be off after picking up my two DD's for my niece's husbands funeral this morning in London. A sad day for the family as he was such a bigger than life sort of person.
How she will get through today I can't imagine, as she has two small children.
My sis-in-law is devastated, and hasn't left her side.
Life to me is so precious, and for someone so young (44) it seems such a waste.
I will let my eldest drive as she is a dreadful passenger, bless her.

Got stuck into my big essay yesterday and managed about a third of it , as MSD say a displacement therapy to take ones mind off is a good idea .By the way I would love you recipe for coffee cake I used to have a lovely one that an Austrian friend gave to me years ago, but I lost it when I moved house, and have not yet found a good replacement .It sounds delicious as both my DDs love coffee cake .

On Saturday I am going to a craft show at the Excel centre in London for the day, no doubt will buy some bits ,I love these shows as they give me lots of ideas for new projects and our craft club like to try new things. I bought a Cuttlebug before Christmas and I love trying out different bits on it.
Well time to jump in the shower and have some breakfast I hope everyone has a brighter day than mine today and <<hugs>> to those who are sad and lonely
    Cheers JackieO

    Morning.

Yesterday was a bit wierd...... I seemed to have started the thread on the wrong board... What happened there, I do not know? I was not starting a new trend that's for sure.

These things happen from time to time.

No work today. Day off, but I have to go to school to help interview some internal applicants for a promotion. Nice to be asked. I think I am getting to grips with this governor thing.
Dad has made me a new chicken house, so I shall pick that up later and separate my chickens up so that I can collect the fertile eggs and try to start to incubate them again. Should have all my own stock and sell some by the end of the year.

Well, folks. Have a nice day.

Apologies for the brief post yesterday, I hurt my back at work & couldn't sit long enough to type a proper one, still it seems better today, so far.
Hugs to Csarina hope you feel better soon.
WS your tales about little bear make me laugh, you truely do need eyes in the back of your head with toddlers. My DGS was into everything, covered himself with sudacreme, bubblebath, bath cleaner to name but a few. He's also eaten dog food & 2 ibuprofen tabs when at his other Nana's. Funnily enough he doesn't go there anymore, lol.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good morning everyone :D Just popping in quickly, I haven't posted for a few days and this is a quick catch up before I get up and face the day.

Big (((hugs))) to everyone who needs one, life doesn't seem to be getting any easier.

It's my day off and it's a pottering day for me. The floors need washing in the kitchen and hallway, so that will probably be my first job after breakfast. The boiler is being serviced today, so no doubt it will be a hanging around job till that is done. I never feel like starting anything when someone is supposed to be coming.

It is duck for dinner tonight, roasted in the remoska. I'll also roast some veggies to go with it and have some savoy cabbage as well. A few blackberries from my frozen stash with HM yoghurt will make up dessert.

Have a lovely OS day everyone :D
Enjoying an MSE OS life :D
  • Morning all,

Diva - wow, you were busy hun. If you're giving out the coffee cake recipe I'll have it too - I can't stand it, but my mum would love it... Tis a shame about Wendy R as well, when she said last year it had come back I thought she had said she had a couple of years or so probably. It's such a cruel disease. And I understand what you mean about finding peace - maybe Tristan fighting against it is the only way he can cope, and I agree that sometimes we want a person to feel or act a certain way to make ourselves cope better....
Kathy, oh I wish I could knit... (I have tried many times, I just really really can't get it). So are you plotting to become ex-pats now then??
JackieO, I hope today goes as well as it can do. Nothing wrong with displacement activity... well done on the essay progress too :)
N9eav, should be interesting being in on the interviews, I'm a new-ish governor (joined about a year ago) and only just starting to really get to grips with it.
Hester, be careful with your back today then - don't go doing yourself any more damage!! I was going to ask if the new layout is better....

University this morning (so a day off placement which is good), and then am going to join a local gym with a friend, so we will hopefully motivate each other.

Got some jacket potatoes to have for supper later - I thought I might fry up some onion & mushroom, then once they're done scoop the potato out, mix it up with them & add cheese, then pop back in the over to finish off - very scrummy....
Also got 2 more packs of reduced blackberries in Mr T at lunchtime yesterday, so will be making some more muffins to feed the swarm of locusts (aka my DD's) over the weekend..

((((((((hugs))))))) for all those needing them. Have a good day all.

    Morning all,

Looks like another nice day here, off to work today, but finish at lunch time so not too bad :T .

Thanks again for all the good wishes re dd yesterday, she was thrilled.

Csarina hugs to you hun, go and see your gp re the burn, and tell them how much stress you are under x

Whatatwit, nice to see you posting again x

Summer in winter chicken tonight, which is one of our favourites, dd is going to cook it, another recipe for her to learn.

I need to put a wash on tonight, will hang it on the airer overnight. Looks like we are in for another cold spell next week, and more snow for Scotland so wrap up warm.

Jackie, I hope today goes as well as it can xx

Happy Birthday to Crazychic, have a great day :bdaycake:

    Happy Birthday to Mrcas :T

Ok better get the day going, have good days all xx
  • Morning All

 Have a great day Crazychick:beer:

N9eav - think thats what you would call having a 'senior moment'.:D

Havnt been on here properly over the last couple of days - things been a bit manic here.

Had a VAT small business day yesterday which was very interesting and very busy. Also spent the rest of the day on the phone trying to get our business insurance sorted - looks like have got a much cheaper quote so that is brilliant :j .

Today need to go to town to pay a cheque in, make a few more phonecalls and clean the house.

I will be cleaning the bathrooms so will be armed with microfibre cloths, vinegar and stardrops. Will also make the fudge brownies that I wanted to do the other day. Chicken stir fry was on the menu plan but need some noodles and beansprouts so will get those whilst in town.

Off now to do my free scratchcard, won £5 yesterday which was brilliant.

    Have a good Friday,
    x

    Morning all.
Came on here a few times a while back but sort of trailed off. Things are a but funny just now (keep getting not well, mainly back but now tonsils!).
Anyway I don't know all your names but just to say hi , hugs to those who need them and hope I can write again soon.
