Just a simple question,if there is a full page advert in the press for a given product(s) does MRT have to honour that price.Lets say for example a washing machine @ £199.97 in the paper, you then go to the store & it has a SEL of £225.97 & you are charged that price at the checkout.Would you be able to produce the said advert/page at the CS desk & expect a r&r?,i have no particular item or advert in mind its just a general question.I would have thought the standard line at the bottom of the page "at participating stores only" would give the CS desk the get out clause they needed, if they so wished that is.0

Jambo,
From my experiance getting a phone in 1 store they dont have to honour anything printed on anything other than the product or SEL.
They turned round and said that the price was correct at time of press and changed just after, i never looked at the mobiles before so i couldnt argue with them on that point. TS would be more interested as the ad in the press is getting you in the store to buy the product at the low price. when you arrive you will be charged more, there is a term in law for the practice but I cant remember what it is but it isnt allowed. you should have a good case for r+r so let us in on the news paper and which washing machine.0 -
Tars wrote:I had a rummage around the documentation today about refunds and its pretty clear in that R&R is only really for where the shelf edge label displays a missprice not when its something like a leaflet, poster or something of that nature. So technically the phones shouldn't be covered by R&R by the sound of it and the customer service guys reading the 'script' are right.
Hi Tars
I appreciate the good work you and SPA2K do on this board in informing customers of the view from the other side, unlike some I could mention.
A quick question, if I may, relating to your post above. You talk about the shelf edge label, yet the policy doesn't appear to mention it anywhere, in store or on the website. It simply sya the Tesco policy on signs instore is :-
"And if things don't add up ~ In the unlikely event you are charged a higher price than on the shelf or the product we will refund your money and you can keep the product"
As a customer I for one consider a shelf to be a shelf, regardless of whether I'm reading a white label, yelow label, yellow big advert, leaflet or poster. I can't read French let alone Barcodeze!
I don't look at dates, just prices. Surely the emphasise should be on staff to remove incorrect information, and where they don't r&r ( when not vastly abused ) should be given with a smile and good grace.
Maybe this is a simplistic view, but I'm sure most shoppers would agree that they go by what is put in front of them to encourage them to make a purchase, and when that is accidentally incorrect information Tesco are surely at fault.
How difficult would it have been to email / fax each store saying remove the V171 phones until the 20th? Instead people receive conflicting stories, some getting a phone (or 1000!) some getting £10 offer.
Once again, this isn't intended in any way as a go at you, on the contrary I welcome your posts on this board and can fully understand how the CS staff at Tescos feel when they see some of the trolls on here approaching.

By removing the phones from sale the company is potentially losing turnover, not only from the phone itself but also from any airtime it may sell relating to the phone. IF the stores had done their jobs properly (ours included) and displayed the pos when instructed then when picking the item up the customer would have seen that there had been a pricing error and made their decision based upon the information provided (IE a sign saying "THIS PRODUCT IS NOT 39.99!).
This whole situation has been bought about by stores either not seeing or ignoring the communications sent by HO......unfortunately, with over 250000 employees, it is hard to get everyone singing from the same hymnsheet (very apt for a sunday i thought).
Oh, and reading barcodeze is quite easy, in fact, its black and white with no shades of gray.Fight Poverty - Hit a tramp!
I don't exist, it is merely your imagination.

Does any one know if there is a barcode scanner in either the 5 Ways/Edgbaston Store or The Dudley store becuase they are too big to trawl

As I said it was a general question, the washing machine was just a example .Many thanks for reply though Little John.0 -
Hi all, there was another site I had bookmarked - it allowed misprices to be rated.
Think it was developed by an MSE'r (had a beef n gravy calc. on it from an older promotion).
Anyway - had to reinstall PC earlier, can anyone supply a reminder of the link?
Thanks!0 -

MyUserNamesTaken wrote:You'll get different answers from different members of staff at HO. Everything I stated in the post you've quoted is true. If you buy an item knowing that you will be charged a higher price at the till than is shown on the SEL, you're not being overcharged. You already know the price you're going to be charged (having seen it on here, or seen it when using an instore scanner), therefore you accept that price when taking it through the till. The SEL is an invitation to treat. You make an offer to buy the item when you take it through the till. If you know the item is going to scan at £9.99 (even though the SEL says £8.99), your offer is to pay £9.99 for that item. As you already know the item will scan at the higher price, you're accepting that price if you then decide to buy it. That's how TS sees it. As said before, contact TS if you don't believe me. Proving that you knew you were going to be charged more than the SEL is another thing, though. That's why some people on this thread are now being refused r&r on the basis that they do it far too often and have drawn attention to themselves.
Hi Myusernamestaken,
I am not inanyway disbeleiving what you said, when reading mail, texts, etc it is all too easy for the receiver to take it in a different way, that was not my intention. My point was that as i had this e mail from Tesco`s customer service i feel that is good enough for me to show to store cs in a scenario where i may have a problem with an r&r as often a phonecall is made to h/o cs anyway by the store, as i have this in writing i feel more at ease with doing an r&r especially if it is a product i would have bought anyway, as they are still happy (from the e mail) with people to obtain a refund even if the customer knew it was a possible misprice, i understand what you are saying about the ts argument, hopefully though i would not need to take an r&r that far, and i think they would find it difficult to prove that i knew it was going to be a misprice anyway.0
