I actually wondered if the emails out today were a scam - I was a bit suspicious about having to only use the link in the email to the CD wow site, where presumably you then enter your credit card details to pay...most sites let you type in their address and enter the voucher number.0

You are (perhaps understandably) annoyed at the Time Out problems, but why on Earth would you then enter into another voucher giveaway (one of many that I am sure cd wow are running) only to start whining like a schoolgirl when you are the one who signed up to receive e-mails and promotions in the first place. Don't forget that there were loads of people who were already on their systems before Time Out. I would imagine this voucher is aimed at them as well. By all means take exception to the fact that you have received this while still chasing another voucher, but don't drag it into this thread where it has no place.
Recognising we all see things a little differently, I am not going to use this board to give lectures to others on what is appropriate to post or not, or indeed where.
My point was indeed that if CD Wow can't or won't honour one deal ( Time Out ) then why did they aggravate the problem by sending out another sort of voucher offer to the same people again, and that voucher value widely seems to be 50p. I rather hoped by responding to this latest offer that this was their way of finalising the issue by dishing out selectively to Time Out readers the £8.75, but the 50p rubbed salt into the wounds for me.
Their system should be able to tell the Time Out responses and they could therefore have been excluded, if they had any quality of marketing know how or desire. I only agreed to receive these promotions by e-mail on the basis that there was an incentive to encourage me to shop again with them in the future. Until this incentive has been honoured I think they should be more selective in their customer contact.0 -
Er, why has this been moved to "Gone but.."?
Is Martin, who originally posted the thread, going to try to get this sorted or not?0 -
I doubt very much Martin will sort this out, basically he's caused this problem, terms said timeout readers only. He's moved it to gone but not forgotten, so it can be forgotten about.
I have the magazine, I proved it and I got the voucher. For christ sake people, if you don't have the magazine don't whinge about not getting a free cd, for those that did read the certain dated magazine contact timeout.Debt Free Wannabee - Updated 13/08/2007

At the moment CD wow has shut up shop talking to me. There is no legal recourse here as there is an opt-out in its terms and conditions this is an 'invitation to treat' not a contract, therefore there is no legal right to enforce this.
As argued all along this applies to 'Time out readers', without any definition of what a reader of Time Out is. The legal advice is this is a perfectly legitimate application for people to make but CD-Wow is legitimate in rebutting and not honouring it.
That leaves us with a reputational issue. It is up to you to decide what your views are on CD-Wow and whether you choose to use the company again - or whether this was a 'loophole' and it 'got out of the loophole' - all part of the 'adversarial consumer society' game. Most of the time 'loopholes' work, sometimes they don't - that's life
I still suggest you individually e-mail CD-Wow and try with your claim.
However what i would be interested to hear, is if CD-Wow add anyone onto its 'CD-Wow club' mailing list who wasn't given the free CD voucher, thus it not holding up its side of the incentive.

PS I didnt move it to Gone but not forgotten, that was the board guides (perfectly reasonably) taking a judgement. However, perhaps sadly it needs to stay here.Martin Lewis, Money Saving Expert.

Check you out trying to hide the date of the magazine - shame it's already been posted along with a link to the back issue part of Time Out's site so we all know what was on the cover.
Martin hasn't caused any problem. Cd-Wow and Time Out should have put a limit on this offer for this reason exactly - most other companies do! And I don't think anyone on this forum appreciates gloating and advice in your tone - your post hasn't achieved anything, or contributed to this thread at all - so other than to throw in your two pence and have a go at the reason this forum is here, ie. Martin, and all the people who use it - what's the point?0 -

Thanks to those who have given alternative cd sites. I shall use these in future and recommend them to all my friends.
Oh no you don't care what I think, I'm gonna go cry in the corner for a bit now.... Anyhoo that post wasn't to you. This thread's funny, people get so wound up. And darn it, if I wanna be self-important I shall be! Just like if you wanna wish harm on people well you carry on.
CDWOW send 50p vouchers out in mailouts to members periodically, so I guess everyone involved in this whole Timeout thing who are still registered as a member got the same email. Well tomorrow's the date they've extended the promotion to so everyone will know by then, so we can all decide whether to keep banging on about it or leave it. I know what I'll be doing. Bye everyone it was an interesting experience but people on this thread are scary and want people to lose jobs and stuff so I'm gonna go to a happier place with lots of trees I can hug. Yay. You know, working in customer services for an on-line music retailer can send you a bit loopy when strangers start wishing your contemporaries unemployment..0 -
I've definitely been added to their mailing list. I had an email from Toucan the following day after signing up (one of their partner offers ) and since then have had different emails promoting stuff like reduced DVD's, pre-release items and today one advertising the biggest CD Wow voucher giveaway. (I got 50p!)
