Well finally I think things may be moving forward a little. OH has been taking some advice, don't know from whom, and has discovered that as the majority of his debts are pre 2007, they may not be enforceable, so is thinking of going down this route tosee what can be cleared. I suppose that counts as progress?

Some progress... but not towards solving the root of the matter which is his inability to stop curb the spending habits that got him (and you) into that mess in the first place. Any progress there???

Make sure he isn't paying one of those companies that take the money upfront. Although there have been (mainly anecdotal) instances of such debts being wiped, in reality, the lenders will not go quietly.

And give him the template letters off here for a DIY job, as win = fee if they succeed!

Apparently there is s "search" fee to pay then its no win no fee. I have suggested he has a go at doing it himself and he seem quite interested. So nothing to lose by trying I suppose. Will need to read thru' the CCA thread first.

No win no fee is one thing. What is the percentage if they do win for him?

Very few of the people going through these companies have successfully got the debt wiped, and a lot of the companies are downright dodgy. I'm afraid to say this sounds like him avoiding facing up to his spending habits, just finding a way of not paying what he owes.
    Debt January 1st 2018 £96,999.81
    Debt September 20th 2022 £2991.68- 96.92% paid off
