You know Marty ~ I dabbled in ouija boards when I was at school.
We researched it a little then made our own (Quite a few in fact)
I do recall asking it "what computer will I be using whem im 50", which shows how much of a geek I was (Even though I wasnt really) and only after realised what a REALLY dumb question it was for a number of reasons (Not least of which, I could be dead before im 50)

    anyways ~ my point

    It spelt out.....A P P L E

    oooooooo ~ spooky :p

lol...I think you'd actually really like a Mac Rik, what with your love of all things expensive. ;)

Though I don't know what the Windows community on here would do without you to bail them out repeatedly.

I wouldn't dabble in video with a Mac Mini, one HDD, duboius airflow, that doesn't make for good video editing, although I suspect my idea of dabbling with video is very different from yours...

Unless he's rendering a Pixar movie (who use Macs, btw), he'll be just fine.

The majority of movie studios use linux.

Pixar have been gradually replacing Linux with Mac OS X for years now. The film WALL-E is stuffed with Apple references, from WALL-E's Mac startup chime to the character Eve, who was designed by the British designer Jonathan Ive who is Senior Vice President of Inustrial Design at Apple and the designer of the iMac, iPod and iPhone.

Hardly surprising given that Pixar was owned from 1986 until 2006 by Apple's CEO Steve Jobs, who sold it to Disney and now sits on their board of directors.

    Microsoft doesn't, though.

Really gives you faith in their products if even they don't like using them. :p

Surely the choice of what platform to use rests with Crispin Porter & Bogusky, you know, the agency that actually made the adverts :p

Yes, but the choice of what platform to use to create its in house copies rests with Microsoft.

Steve Ballmer won't let his kids have iPods, but apparently his employees can use Apple products, as long as no one finds out about it.

    Whoops!
  • Many thanks all for your responses. I'll probably go for the Dell as I have had a very good experience with our Studio 17 lappy I bought before chrismas. I will upgrade the ram up to 4 gig, as our laptop has 3 gig and it chugs along at a very reasonable rate. As for gaming, my lad has a networked XBox so he should be reasonably ok for high end stuff. He is in his GCSE year anyway so we are trying to get him to use the machines less often.

Had my new Dell 530 one week now and very happy. Had the 2gb as I can get 2 more gb from Crucial for £24 delivered.

Thats probably because they're getting a discount! The movie industry is like the opposite of the home user market, linux out numbers macs and windows.
