Staffordshire oat cakes! Works even better with rough oats IMO.

Make up a big batch, stack separated with plastic / clingfilm and freeze. Take out as and when, heat in a pan for a couple of minutes and add the filling of your choice (cheese and spring onion is probably the quickest). Great teatime snack or quick supper if you don't have an audience to impress.

Seriously healthy pancakes! Leave 2/3 cup oats in 1 cup milk over night, add one egg, 1/3 cup SR flour and fry with a little butter/dry. Like a thick, more flavoursome scotch pancake.

if you're making something like muffins use the oats as a substitute for a portion of the flour. i have a recipe that requires 2.5 cups of flour so i use 1 cup of oats and 1.5 cups of flour and it always makes the muffins really moist (and healthier!)

What a brilliant idea! Do you whizz them up first or use them as they come?

I use oats in my bread - I whizz a good handful up with a handful of each of pumpkin, sesame, linseed and sunflower seeds. The bread is always lovely and moist.

Put your dry porridge oats into a food processor or blender, whizz for a few seconds and you've got Ready Brek quick porridge! ;)

I do it with bags of value porridge oats.

This is what I do too, as I can only eat really smooth, Ready Brek style porridge.

I can't ever get it to work in the microwave without needing a massive cleanup afterwards though, so I do it in a saucepan - as it's so smooth it takes just moments to heat up and doesn't need to cook/thicken for long. 1/2 porridge oats proportionally to liquid and it's ready to serve in just a couple of minutes.

Hi - i love porridge - my recipe is:
    3/4 mug porridge oats
2x 3/4 mug milk (or milk and water)

Bring to boil in saucepan - stirring - keep bubbling once boiling boil for 1 MINUTE still dtirring- then take off heat - cover with lid or plate and leave for 5 mins or more - should be lovely and creamy.

    Hey,
My OH decided to try porridge with fruit, however he didn't like it so now im left with a box of rolled oats!
Iv tried (and failed) making oat and raisin cookies.
I was wondering if oats could be put in savory cooking, would i get away with putting some in a chilli for example? (if so il sneak some in tonight and see how it goes down!)

I always add a couple of handfuls of oats to any mince dish. You won't even notice it's there. Just remember to add extra liquid.
