Porridge Oats

Does OS have any love for one of the most traditional British staples, oats?
I recently bought a big bag of them from Tesco, it only cost 60p! Theoretically if I made them up with just water, I could get around 15 breakfasts for 60p (not including the few p for energy costs)! 4p for a nutritious breakfast
I've been making porridge with the oats, some water, some milk, and some sugar. What other good recipes are there?0 -
This thread has recipes and ideas that should help:
Porridge Oats
I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

I`m a big fan of Staffordshire Oatcakes. (more like a pancake than the `normal` dry oatcakes.) I googled - there are LOADS of recipes, and there`s a link somewhere on the main thread.
Pick whichever you fancy, they`re not difficult. I lost my favourite recipe and don`t make them these days because they started selling them in Tesco.0 -
Wish I hadn't seen this - I've got beef in the oven, the veg are prepared, the Yorky pud mix is done - but now all I can think about is a big fat bowl of porridge :cool:I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

If all else fails, the birds will love them dry at this time of year when they are hungry and have lots of young chicks to feed. You can also mix them with the fat from the bottom of a roast meat dish and then thrown them out. - the birds will love them!0
