I'm a user of MSE, and a reader of HPC. So I guess my bias lies towards MSE.

However. This thread is doing exactly what the HPC threads are doing. And it has to be said, the HPC bashing goes on here just as much.

I read HPC because I can get a clearer view of stuff, without the slanging matches in between the posts. It's quite refreshing to actually read a thread that has stayed on topic rather than gone back to the playground.

I think personally thats the problem with MSE. It caters for and calls on people who have managaed their finances badly (bank charges, credit card debts, IVA's) and is full of "heres what you can get because absolutely nothing is your fault, ever, and you have no responsibility for yourself, ever". I have debt, so I'm no better than anyone else with debt. So I'm not coming at it from that angle.

At the same time, we have very knowledgeable people who do take care of their finances. And these two sets of people seem to clash. I too cannot stand the hugs and stuff only in the next post for someone to hug someone else, that goes totally against the hug they just gave to the other person. It's all false pretences and makes me switch off.

Anyway, it essence, what I'm trying to say it HPC is no better than MSE and MSE is no better than HPC when it comes to slagging off. Infact, I woudl say MSE is worse, and far more childish.

Like I say, if I want to find proper, thoughtful views on something thats just come out in the news, for insance, Quantative Easing, I read HPC. It's a lot easier than reading through everyone pulling each others hair and scratching each others eyes out here.

I agree. But it's also duller and doesn't have the Thanks button.

It's all people agreeing with each other. If you stray from the 'party line' you get banned.

I've never visited the other site....I'm a scaredy cat!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

You'd do well with that handle. Most of them have never seen a real woman.

It's being going on since last year, and some memebers of mSE are also members of HPC. The crux of it was that HPC was far more militant than MSE, and we are derided as such. That is life. It has sometimes gone the other way too.

Besides, the derision that has made it's way onto this board in the past months is of much more concern than HPC. A number of long time posters have left as a result, and many others don't bother posting as much.
I'll have some cheese please, bob.
  • Been on HPC for many years and on here more recently.

Agree with most of the above but would add, there are some very sad and bitter individuals on that site...

    I've been Money Tipped!
Some of the negative interpretations of where we are heading on here depress me enough to, I hope, prompt me to keep relatively informed and try and form an opinion of my own, but not so much that I feel the need to top myself in despair.

Some of the thing said of HPC forum make me worry that might simply help to push me close to hysteria.

I too despair of the soft, never claim blame detors, (and I will NEVER see sky tv as a basic or necessity) but I also don't want to point and laugh. Some threads I've read on this make me VERY frustrated, so I keep away from that part of the forum. Those types of posters probably don't want to hear the type of advice those of us who don't see sky as a requirment have to give, so it helps no one.

I have started deleting posts I've made in the past, I know as I type them they are available for public viewing, I just begin to trust the 'public' less.

I think the majority of folk in DFW would do a lot better posting on HPC than MSE, assuming they weren't cry babies... far more sensible site.

I'm only on MSE for my own amusement.

The DFW board is an excellent tool for sorting out your debt problems, there is some excellent advice and guidance. OK, so it might be all hugs etc but the support offered is great.

HPC is a place full of nutters.
