Housepricecrash.co.uk & MSE

actually the main theme on HPC is not to follow the crowd like a sheep and believe everything you see in the newspapers.
isnt it funny that the things people were predicting 12-18 months ago are mainstream news and is happening right now.
the bursting of the housing bubble
collapse of the credit markets
collapse of the banking system
a depression was unheard of a few months ago however it was talked about a long time ago on HPC due to the scale of the problems.
a house price crash was not just what they wanted to happen but what they expected to happen because it was a bubble that defied all logic.
that return to logic is now happening before your very eyes.0 -
Sorry Setmefree, but I think your point is going way over my head!
Either you are saying HPC'ers wanted property to crash - which they did because there was (now proven) a property bubble
or you are saying that property prices aren't crashing? In which case I think you are wrong.
But maybe you would like to enlighten me if I'm missing the point - because I'm dashing about and a bit tired ...!
Sorry I wasn't try to say any of that, was I? Do you mean the joke?0 -
Oh heck Dan!
I think the difference in mindsets between HPC and MSE is summed up in this one statement ...
It shows the difference in mindset between Dan and Bf109 but that's it. Or Dan is just teasing him.
Oh and as for swinging both ways... good for you, but what's that got to do with this discussion?0 -

An extension & a loft conversion are not much use to you when your kids have left home. If the choice is between moving house to accomodate your growing family or extending, it's often cheaper to extend. I think I read somewhere that going from a 3 bedroom house to a 4 bedroom house averagly costs £100,000 - extensions don't cost anywhere near that.
the arguement on HPC is that you dont seem to question the fact that going from a 3 bed house to a 4 bed will cost you £100,000. instead you accept this as a given as though this is normal just because thats what the market is like today.
the fact that moving from a 3 bed toa 4 bed costs you 100k, shows you just how far out of sync the market is/was.0 -

they want to be individuals and have bought into gold - that's one big gold bubble that's going to bust :rotfl:isnt it funny that the things people were predicting 12-18 months ago are mainstream news and is happening right now.
HPC.co.uk was started in 2003 - of course they will get it right at some point, a broken clock is right twice a day. the bubble would always burst - how super intelligent to predict it. there are some decent posters on HPC but there a big bunch of nobodys who think they are top economistsa house price crash was not just what they wanted to happen but what they expected to happen because it was a bubble that defied all logic.
they bang on about hyper inflation hitting the UK- wouldn't that mean property prices increasing? but they think it's best to keep on renting... :rotfl:0 -

... thought it needed livening up!
Setmefree - it was probably a very old cartoon (in the days when rising house prices were thought to be a good thing?)
Dan, re the extension thing. Maybe just best to double up the kids in the bedrooms - they'll squeal but they will survive - best that than end up with no roof over their head at all.
And if you earn enough and save you'll be able to afford it cash and negotiate a better deal in a couple of years anyway.
