Accident in a retail store

My 2 year old daughter was in instore tonight and bent over to look at some Fifi wellingtons. The metal rod that they were hanging on stabbed her in the face missing her eye by cms. She started to cry and when they looked the end of the rod was not covered by any rubber tip or flattened into a circle or anything. She is ok but has a lump and a bruise coming. Does anyone know if these rods should have protective ends on them? We are so lucky that it missed her eye!

Teach her to be more careful or as a responsible parent pay more attention to your surroundings.
I am sure that it won't prove fatal.0 -
I think it's your responsibility to supervise her,but I hope she recovers soon.0

She wasn't actually with me, but thanks for your caring comments. I am just trying to discover whether I can push for the shop to be made more child friendly to avoid someone losing an eye just by bending down to look at some wellingtons that are designed for children and are bound to attract their attention!0

Stop now.
Have you actually read your last post?
Shops and their displays are designed for the money spending customers, not the children that they may or may not have with them upon entry.
Sorry if this sounds harsh, but it is down to you to check the "environment" no-one else.0 -
Sorry, I thought this was a website for people to share their knowledge didn't realise it was a stage for an attack.
So are you saying that stores have no obligation for the safety of children only adults?0 -
Blimey - some people have beds with two wrong sides !
OP - I'm sure the shop manager would be very happy for you to point out how dangerous the shop fittings can be to a toddler. It may be something they have wanted to change for some while, and your comments will support their case......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I am not attacking you.
Although your username does lend itself to that idea.
What I am saying is that we all have to take responsibility.
I bet you would not let your daughter cross the road on her own, because there is a well known established danger of cars there.
Logic follows that you should take the same care in a shop.0 -

Thank you. Her grandparents did report it in the shop so hopefully they will take notice.0 -
I am sure that under the numerous health and safety regulations you will find something to say that sharp ends of rods on shop racks should be protected. It was unfortunate that your child caught her face on it - but it probably could have happened just as easily to an adult bending down.
Did you say anything to the shop assistants or manager of the shop?
Hope she is feeling better soon.0 -

You are correct I would not let my 2 year old cross the road on her own but I honestly don't think you can compare her bending down in a shop to look at a cartoon character the same as crossing a road! Come on.0
