Selling Your Stuff on Amazon Part 12 - Advice for newbies in first two posts

Can someone please help me with postage cost on Amazon? I am new to Amazon (listed my first item earlier this morning). I've tried to list another item which is a thin playboard about a 1/3 of the size of A4 paper, now when I try to list it the postage is coming up at £4.05, why is it so expensive? It would probably go as a large letter if wrapped carefuly or £1.41 if in a jiffy bag.
Thanks in advance.

Sorry I have another question. I want to list something that isn't listed on Amazon at the moment, how do I do it? When I click sell it asks me for the title but then says that it's not found, can I not create a new one.
Thanks

Hi TMD
Q1) Amazon marketplace Pro sellers (who pay a monthly fee) can make listings from scratch on an item which is not yet listed on Amazon. During this listing set-up they have to say how heavy the item is. Amazon would then set the postage price accordingly to that. Each category also has a standard price for posting too which could cause it. Its about £4.34 in games for instance (something like this, cannot remember exactly), so it could be based on the category instead. Everyone selling this item will also get this amount towards their postage costs though, you can't change it yourself although I think soolin has mentioned before that some things can be changed by customer services if you notify them it needs changing
Q2) You can only list against an existing Amazon listing if you are a normal seller. Only pro sellers can create new listings. Try searching in the normal search box rather than in the "sell your item" section in case it is there. I find sometimes the correct item does come up when you do that, only sometimes but its worth checking

Thanks JesaRose. I was searching each comic and most of them were not found (I only found one so far). I will try and list that one tomorrow (when it finishes on Ebay if it doesn't sell) and see how it goes. Don't want to list too many anyway.
So if I list that one, there are two other sellers selling them, one for £21 and the other for £17.00, what if I only want to list it for £5/6 is that OK?
Thanks very much for your help I really appreciate it.

Thats fine, you can list at less than theirs. It should mean yours sells much quicker than theirsNot been here in years! Hi everyone. Make £10 a day challenge = £78.45/1550

I'm trying to list a Ty Beanie, there are 3 the same, two of them have 0.00 for postage, the other has £2.00, yet when I try to list it's saying postage is £4.43. I don't understand?

What's the sales ranking like? If it is high start your price to match the others, if it is low then put it on at what you want as a minmum and leave it there until it gets a buyer.Ranking is almost as important as price.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks Soolin, how do I check the sales ranking? I might leave it for now, I just listed a few on Ebay and do some more research on Amazon for now, I'm sure I'll get the gist of it all soon.

Dear all, how would I asses how much extra to charge (I was thinking on Amazon) for a cd that's been signed by the artist? I can't find one the same anywhere. It isn't anyone with great fame or appeal and they're still living but I'm sure someone might be interested. And how would I prove that it is an authentic signature if anyone was interested. To me it doesn't have mroe than about 50p additional value but I don't really know.
Any thoughts anyone? I ws wondering about putting it on a fan club forum but there doesn't seem to be anything very organised around any more. Thanks
