    1. AJAX - dynamic communication ...
8 MSE's post editor....alright I'm getting stuck now. Was trying to get to 10.
True, I recognise some of those - and when I usually end up allowing javascript to use them.

The main reason I use NoScript is because of websites that abuse javascript's functionality. Things like pop-up adverts that AdBlock doesn't prevent. Especially the ones that float in front of the text you're reading. Or disable the right-click button on the mouse (in a futile attempt to stop people copying images).

I'm sure most javascript is used responsibly but I've found that disabling it with NoScript leaves very few websites unusable. Those that are unusable are not usually something I was that interested in anyway. And NoScript means that I can just enable a specific website rather than the whole browser.

I must admit to a certain amount of schadenfreude that website programmers have to work harder to cater for us ;-)

Because we have to make site's degrade gracefully. If I make a Javascript menu, you can't use my site unless you have Javascript installed.

Well yeah, but if I WANTED your site to work then id unlock it
    I dont see the problem

With you 100% there. Grrr...float-over ads. Agree the right click disable is a bit of a laugh, yeah seen that occasionally.

That's interesting you say that by disabling it by default you've found few web sites unusable. I found the opposite, I found NoScript a bit annoying because I thought it made too made web sites unusable by default which is why I switched to YesScript. I guess it depends where you go regularly. Horses for courses.

If this site was hacked and a malicious script was inserted, youd be infected (If your anti virus didnt recognise it)

I agree. I thought it was very irritating and ended up removing it.

Correct. But I'd also know how to fix it. It wouldn't be a disaster to me. Like the one time in n years I got hit, I knew how to fix it relatively quickly.

You can go nuts about these things. Driving a car is really dangerous, you might get killed. You're sharing a road with people of varying capability in varying states of alertness. However you do it because driving provides you with significant utility compared with the risk.

I think JavaScript provides me with enough utility that I leave it on by default compared with the risk that Mozilla have made a mistake in their implementation. Your opinion of the risk to reward ratio clearly differs.

Unless the script was so nasty it killed your computer stone dead. In which case you wouldnt be able to 'fix' it. Youd just have to completely reinstall windows
