Im desperatly trying to loose weight. Im male 22, I been going to gym for a month around 3-4 times a week, I am a vegie (no fish, or eggs) and now going controlled diet of no sugars and eating small portions more regularly. I have a flabby tummy that i need to tone and get in shape and loose fat/flab generally all over but main concerns are:
tummy, bum, chest (moobs)
When I go gym aftter work I spend time doing following:
15 mins tredmill power walks,
10min cross runner
10 min xtrainer on arms only
10 mins bike,
Now im also adding barbell weights and rowing machines. I dont seem to have lost any really weight.
Welcome PM.
As Vix said earlier, if exercise alone isn't shifting things, then perhaps monitoring your diet's calorie/energy values might help you? I use a calorie controlled diet, whilst also keeping it low carb/low sugar at the same time. I use a website called Foodfocus.com (there's a link to it on Pg.1 of this thread). It's great because you can even create meals by inputting your ingredients to a recipe, and it calculates the totals for you based on what you put in.
I buy quite a few veggie products like the Linda McCartney range, and Quorn, but looking at some of the other alternatives today, i noticed some of them were very high fat and high calorie. They do tend to put a lot of cheese into some of them, which is just so calorie dense. Provided you are giving your body the balance of nutrients it needs, there's not reason why a veggie diet can't be an incredibly healthy one anyway. Is there a reason for cutting back on sugar? Snacking on nuts is a good way to get essential fats, but they can also add lots of extra calories as snacks. I was having them as snacks myself in January, and loved them, but I had a couple of weeks where I felt I had been quite hungry, but hardly lost a thing. Since I cut back on the nuts, and other calorie high snacks that didn't fill me up, I've been losing again.
I've been a regular gym user for a few years, although have just cancelled my membership due to the cost. This was my routine:
X trainer - 10 mins (level 7)
bike - 10 mins (4km) I got it down to under 9 min 30sec
Rower - 10 mins (1500m)
Treadmill - 10/15 mins slow run or steep uphill fast walk
Recumbent bike - 10 mins (3km)
Weights:
Day 1: shoulders/arms + abs
Day 2: Legs/bum + abs
Day 3: Mixture of both + abs
The cardio work had to be done at a pace where I was breathless, and sweating like a pig! The weights had to be at my limit, so the lat pull-down I had at 45kg, leg adductor/abductor 105kg, etc. I also used the smith machine and a step to do calf exercises, and sitting squats, using 20kg.
The assistants in the gym should be able to work out a programme for fat burning for you, and guide you for building your stammina. That's what they're there for, so make use of them. It may be they go away and work one out for you.
If you have access to a swimming pool that is also a great all over body workout, and helps tone. Essentially it's a combination of factors to tone up the muscles, and also remove the fat that lies on top of them. I have fairly strong core muscles, but they're hidden very well!:o
Keep a food diary, try logging it on somewhere like foodfocus.com, and even post your daily eat on here, as we may spot ways to tweak it.
You'll get lots of support here, and posting regularly is the key.One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

alliwantistosave - holy cow! That's a bit too drastic a way for weightloss for me. It's the equivalent of giving birth! (I had two 9lb-ers, and I'm only 5ft), but without the benefit of a gorgeous baby at the end of it!
You definitely deserve to be slimmer of the week anyway! I have never fancied throwing up or using laxatives myself - I love my intestines too much! One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing

Jings 9lbs! Glad your feeling better alliwanttosave!
The most I've ever lost in a week was 8lbs and thats because I did those AWFUL cambridge diet shakes. You think WOW 8lbs! But REALLY it's just water and your glycogen (sp) stores. I came off it after a month, and I really struggled keeping food down afterwards, if I ate anything too fatty or too much - VOMIT CENTRAL.

Hi All!
I would like to join in please!
Last year I lost quite alot of weight doing TD, and I have since kept most of that weight off. I am still in the same size, but I can tell I have put a little back on!
I am right now, trying not to "diet" as such, but just eat more healthier and do more exercise.
NMM-I LOVE Davina dvds, I did her 3 30 minute workouts last year when I lost all of my weight, and I LOVED it! I have just started the Super Body Workout one, and have only done the Super Fit and Super Sculpt sections individually so far, I have yet to add anything extra in at the end. But I will...!
My main problem area is my arms! I have Bingo Wings...and for a 21year old who would love to wear a sleeveless shift dress this summer I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to tone them up!
I do "at home" exercise, I have an exercise bike which I do use and a wii fit which I rarely useI prefer to do exercise dvds. Recently my boyfriend has joined in doing the Davina Dvd with me...which is great because it gives me good incentive to make sure I do it.
I will weigh in on Wednesdays like everyone else...Starting weight 9stone
I had a doctors appointment today and I got weighed so I know that is accurate...but my bathroom scales, they are a different matter!
This is why previously I have been more inclined to measure myself. I measure my waist, hips, top of thigh, top of arm, underbust, overbust, calf. This way I can see all of the changes overall on my body. Because exercising builds muscle and everyone knows muscle weighs more that fat...therefore I will not see a "weight loss" every week...but it won't mean necessarily it's a "weight gain" it is more likely to be muscle. I tend not to get too hung up on the weight...after all it is just a number on a scale, and the thing that matters to me is how I look in the mirror.
Sheeesh anyway I have babbled far too long!!
Hope to get to know you all better and we can share thoughts and tips etc

Hi andyslinz, yay another davina fan :T Super Body is by far my favourite one so far. The super pump adds 10 mins upper body to the super sculpt routine if that is your problem area, it's thrown in at the start of the workout after the warmup. The super legs is added at the end of the super sculpt routine, in the words of davina its squatastic
The super abs is added at the end of the super fit routine, it always do that one now, instead of the basic one. I've not done super six pack but it seemed to be stand alone. To tone your "bingo wings" i suggest the super pump routine and increase the weights, they'll be gone in no time :j
Well done on the losses, nice photo Buttonmoons, you look different to how i imagined in a good way of courseCross Stitch Cafe Member No1WIP: Cross Stitch: - Crochet:0 -
