One very happy BB here. OH has just been offered the job he went for. It's six months and minimum wage but it's work and the nature of it will be good experience on his CV. This calls for a slap up ryvita and a herbal tea me thinks:D .

Oh BB I am so happy for you and your OH, I am so glad you posted about it because I didn't want to ask just in case I jinxed it! Well Done, and it may be a temporary position but it is a foot in the door and who knows what the future brings!:beer::j:j

Vix, local authorities have to be very careful about sticking to the law when it comes to employment. If you thought that the criteria had not been applied correctly and fairly you would take them to tribunal and win lots and lots of money. Maybe your boss has had a bad experience but I would be surprised if her opinion was accuarate (in my experience as a local authroity employee).

Oh and I sort of want to share this but dont! Right I'm going to be all polite here...today I wore an "outfit" for OH that I havent worn for about 4 months, and I used to have to hold my stomach in to do up the poppers but today it was actually a bit big! Am now a very happy bunny!

Vix, it's true that local authorities and the NHS normally advertise posts internally before they are advertised externally - however if they have already advertised in externally that means that they don't think they have anyone suitable internally.

I went into a local authority via an advert in the local paper, and I went into the NHS via an agency - my temping was supposed to be for 4 weeks - I was there 9 months and then they took me on permanently.

You shouldn't have to look outside of tourism - but there are other skills that you could big up that are not part of tourism - I'm an accountant but they also wanted my internet and training skills - things I developed outside of work.
