One very happy BB here. OH has just been offered the job he went for. It's six months and minimum wage but it's work and the nature of it will be good experience on his CV. This calls for a slap up ryvita and a herbal tea me thinks:D .I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once0

Hooray hooray hooray for BB's OH:j :j :j :j
Vix, local authorities have to be very careful about sticking to the law when it comes to employment. If you thought that the criteria had not been applied correctly and fairly you would take them to tribunal and win lots and lots of money. Maybe your boss has had a bad experience but I would be surprised if her opinion was accuarate (in my experience as a local authroity employee).0 -

hey guys,
i was in a good mood but my boss from visit kent emailed to say she would be a reference. Then she said that local authorites have a habbit of only employing internal staff. Now i feel totally deflated. My mum says i will have to look outside of tourism but i really dont want to. My whole life has been working towards getting my education and now ive basically got to try and get jobs that i could have done when i left school at 16. All the blood sweat and tears i have put in (especially that sod awful dissertation) now feels almost wasted and worthless.
Vix, it's true that local authorities and the NHS normally advertise posts internally before they are advertised externally - however if they have already advertised in externally that means that they don't think they have anyone suitable internally.
I went into a local authority via an advert in the local paper, and I went into the NHS via an agency - my temping was supposed to be for 4 weeks - I was there 9 months and then they took me on permanently.
You shouldn't have to look outside of tourism - but there are other skills that you could big up that are not part of tourism - I'm an accountant but they also wanted my internet and training skills - things I developed outside of work.
Good luck
