You don't have to use Asprea and it would be best for you not to, get two quotes from good local builders.
NU will still send Asprea round to see what work needs doing and they will do a quote for NU as well. Their price will normally be more expensive than local tradesmen so NU will have no problem agreeing to your cheapest quote. If your quotes are more you can pay the difference in the prices (You may find there are differences in the quotes that you might be able to argue over).0 -
Thank you so much for your swift and very helpful response.0

After sending an email to my broker expressing my concerns about Asprea based on what I had read on this forum, NU have given me an alternative choice of using loss adjusters Cunningham Lindsay. Are these people any good or should I risk having Asprea come to my property to validate the claim? Please can you advise.
Many thanks0 -
Cunninghams are proper Loss Adjusters and in theory should send a qualified Loss Adjuster, they will be much better than Aspera.
Cunnuinghams may try and push their builders, I would still recoomend finding your own good local builder (You may need quotes from two different builders). If cunningham insist on their builders providing a quote then if your builders are more expensive than theirs they will normally allow your builders to match their quote and use your builders0 -
Thank you again for such a quick response.
I have already supplied two quotes and my broker stated that Cunninghams would come in to validate my quotes. I wasn't aware that Cunninghams would also try and push their builders, same as Asprea.0 -
They don't always push their own builders, sometimes they just get a quote from a builder they pick to check your quotes are reasonable0

It would be interesting to know who your broker is, Cunninghams builders pay a commission to them on top of their fee. Ask for their quote.
I have been in this position, being instructed by loss adjusting networks and your own contractors should be able to match theirs. I always walked away because I wasn't going to get into ping pong matches with the policyholders and their contractors.
If Cunninghams contractors can't get the job and commissions, they screw your contractors down and request us to put silly prices in, if we are then appointed then variations on the building works start to happen which policyholders often don't know about. So now I only work for assessors and policyholders0 -
None of the brokers I have worked for are paid commissions by the Loss Adjusters for work. Admitidly I have not worked for national brokers, however I cannot see why a loss adjuster would pay a broker any commission as for a normal off the peg policy the Insurer appoints the Loss Adjuster and the broker has no or little influence so it would not be worth the loss adjuster paying commission.
Like I said I have not work for national brokers so cannot speak for them0
